Senate Cancels Caroline Crenshaw'S Sec Renomination Vote

The Senate Banking Committee has called off its vote on the reappointment of Caroline Crenshaw as an SEC Commissioner.

The vote, initially scheduled for tomorrow, got canceled due to a procedural glitch.

The congress is scheduled to resume on December 20, so the vote would not happen before then, leaving President-elect Donald Trump to choose a new commissioner when he takes office in January 2025.

Crenshaw was nominated to the SEC in 2020 while Trump was president and was also renominated by President Biden. She used her time at the SEC to speak out against crypto policies. She was probably best known for being anti-approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs. Her stand was criticized by the crypto industry, which started a campaign to ensure that she wasn’t renominated.

Strong figures in the industry, like co-founder of Gemini Tyler Winklevoss, and Emilie Choi, chief policy officer of Coinbase, came out against her record. Other groups like the Blockchain Association and Digital Chamber also voiced opposition against her.

The campaign against Crenshaw even said she was “more anti-crypto than Gensler”. Although Crenshaw’s renomination had been backed by President Biden, the heavy crypto-world opposition seems to have inspired the Senate committee’s move in calling off the vote.
