This time in Abu Dhabi, Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, is back in the spotlight. On May 6, he shared via social media that he’s attending the Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit, and will soon be taking the stage to talk about Web3, regulation, and how the digital economy is evolving.
CZ is scheduled to speak at 9:55 AM Gulf Standard Time (1:55 PM Beijing time) in a session titled “Web3, Regulation and the New Digital Economy: A Blueprint for Responsible Innovation.”
He’ll be representing both Binance and his educational initiative, Giggle Academy, diving into how emerging technologies like blockchain can grow responsibly with the right kind of regulatory support.
The summit is being held at the St. Regis Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi and runs from May 5 to 6. It’s organized under the authority of the Advanced Technology Research Council and held under the high patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This year’s summit is focused on how to responsibly govern fast-moving technologies like AI, blockchain, and digital platforms—fields where CZ has long been a prominent voice.
Things kicked off this morning with registration at 8:30 AM, followed by a welcome from presenter Maitha Sabah. At 9:40 AM, H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, opened the sessions with a talk on how countries can stay competitive by leading in AI responsibly.
CZ’s session follows right after. He’ll be joined at the summit by other notable names including Rebecca McLaughlin-Eastham, an international anchor with RME Media, who’s also helping lead discussions throughout the event.
The presence of CZ, especially after stepping back from day-to-day operations at Binance, reflects just how seriously the region is taking its role in shaping the future of crypto and emerging tech. With leaders from both public and private sectors in the room, the focus is clear: tech needs rules, and those rules need to make sense.
