BlackRock’s Ethereum ETF Posts $1.02 Billion in Inflows Over 9 Days as ETH Price Surges

BlackRock's Ethereum ETF took 72% of category inflows over nine sessions. Recent buying happened between $2,490 and $2,550, well below the fund's $3,060 lifetime average.

BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) attracted approximately $1.02 billion in net inflows across nine consecutive trading sessions from August 17 to August 27, 2026, with no day of net selling, according to Farside Investors and SoSoValue data. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence highlighted the run, noting $889.8 million across the first eight days—a figure that aligned exactly with Farside’s tally.

ETHA accounted for roughly 72% of all U.S. spot Ethereum ETF inflows during that period. The broader category brought in about $1.42 billion over the same nine sessions. On August 28 the category added another $102.1 million (led by ETHA’s $83.8 million), extending the overall inflow streak.

AI Summary

BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust drew $1.02 billion net inflows over nine days, dominating U.S. spot ETH ETFs.
Arkham Intelligence tracked on‑chain purchases, linking the inflows to BlackRock‑linked client demand, not a firm‑direct buy.
Coinbase Prime executed the ETH acquisitions for the ETF, converting investor capital into roughly 385,000 ETH at $2,500 average cost.

ETH traded near $2,440–$2,485 in late August, per CoinGecko and related market data.

What the streak actually is

The last day of net outflows for U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs was August 11. August 14 was the only session since then to register zero net flow. Thursday, August 27’s $225.8 million single-day intake was the strongest since October 28, 2025.

ETHA’s cumulative net inflows since its July 2024 launch now stand at approximately $12.74 billion, with net assets in the $8.4 billion range. Total U.S. spot Ethereum ETF net assets exceed $15.2 billion, with cumulative category inflows near $13.0 billion.

The cost basis question

Arkham’s estimate places ETHA’s lifetime average buy price near $3,060. That figure reflects the fund’s blended cost basis since launch, not the price paid during the recent streak.

BLACKROCK BUY STREAK: $1 BILLION $ETH

BlackRock’s clients have purchased over $1 Billion of ETH without any days in which they net-sold. In the past 9 days, BlackRock’s ETHA ETF purchased $1.02B of ETH.

ETH did not trade above roughly $2,550 for sustained periods between August 17 and 27, and spent much of the window lower, starting near $1,910 on August 17 before the sharp rise. The ~385,633 ETH identified in on-chain data across eight days implies an average cost in the $2,490 to $2,550 range.

Recent buying therefore occurred well below the fund’s lifetime average, which will gradually pull that blended figure lower over time.

At recent prices near $2,440–$2,485, ETHA’s overall position sits below its lifetime cost basis. Its August purchases do not.

Why “BlackRock bought” is imprecise

Spot ETF flows are client-driven. When investors purchase ETHA shares, the fund creates new units and acquires ETH (typically via Coinbase Prime) to back them. Arkham has previously described such on-chain activity as a signal of demand from BlackRock-linked clients rather than a proprietary purchase by the firm itself.

The nine-day (and continuing) streak reflects retail and institutional buyers routing capital into a regulated Ethereum product. It is not evidence of a BlackRock house position.

Context

The buying coincided with ETH’s sharp climb from near $1,900 to the $2,500 area, a move that also involved substantial short liquidations. ETF demand and forced covering both contributed.

The week ending around August 21 delivered approximately $697 million in Ethereum ETF inflows—the strongest weekly total in about ten months and a 2026 high at the time, per SoSoValue. That followed a difficult stretch earlier in the year, including sizable outflows in May and June.

With the August surge, the category is no longer deeply negative for 2026 overall; cumulative net inflows are strongly positive.

What to watch

The streak ends when a session posts net redemptions. Nine consecutive positive days for ETHA (and the broader category’s extension into a tenth session) ranks among the longest runs since the funds’ early period. Sustained inflows through September would carry more weight than a single strong week tied to a macro-driven rally.

Ethereum’s recent ETF flow pattern has been more consistent than Bitcoin’s in recent months. Some allocators attribute part of the relative interest to Ethereum’s staking yield, which has no direct equivalent in the same form for Bitcoin products.
