According to Fidelity Investments, a landmark year is set to happen for Bitcoin in 2025 as more nation-states and financial institutions come to use the currency. According to its latest report titled “2025 Look Ahead: Digital Assets and Trends to Watch,” it seems that within the next couple of years, governments, central banks, sovereign wealth funds, and financial institutions are likely to continue accepting Bitcoin more widely.
Chris Kuiper, Fidelity Digital Assets’ Director of Research, believes 2025 can be a crucial year for Bitcoin. He argues that more nations and institutions are likely to begin taking positions in Bitcoin, citing the success cases of Bhutan and El Salvador, which both have seen strong returns on investment in the currency.
According to Fidelity, macroeconomic factors, including increasing liquidity from U.S. Federal Reserve rate cuts, could also help boost Bitcoin’s price.
Still, the report highlighted some potential challenges, one of them being stagflation, a situation where growth stagnates but inflation is high. According to Kuiper, in such an environment, the performance of Bitcoin depends on how governments respond through fiscal and monetary policies.
Despite these risks, Fidelity believes Bitcoin is resilient, and the trend might take its place in the portfolios of institutions and sovereigns.
Matt Hogan, research analyst at Fidelity Digital Assets, says the digital asset market is in its transformational stage. According to him, within the next couple of years, we could witness a scenario where digital assets, such as Bitcoin, become integral parts of most industries, technologies, and even governments’ policies. Hogan further adds that what is happening right now might be the start of a new digital asset era, one that would span decades.
The report of Fidelity ends with the notion that 2025 will be the year that Bitcoin, and all digital assets, might just finally leap over the nicheness barrier into being mainstream assets. As the movement of digital assets continues to soar, Fidelity believes that, for investors, the real question is not whether they should be on board but how.
