The 10 BTC were worth approximately $777,000 when they were moved. Galaxy estimated the coins were originally acquired for around $15 per BTC.

10 BTC transferred to a new wallet

The Bitcoin was sent to another wallet rather than an identified exchange address.

The address involved in the transaction was 1PiNWdQARxBpt6g9GdAEYHkPiiGa8EvuYb. Blockchain data from scanners such as Blockchain.com does not identify the person or entity controlling it.

The movement represents an estimated gain of more than 503,000% based on the reported acquisition price and the Bitcoin’s value at the time of transfer.

That calculation reflects the change in the market value of the coins and does not indicate that the holder has realized the gain through a sale.

Transfer does not indicate a sale

Moving Bitcoin from one wallet to another does not establish that the owner has sold the asset.

Holders can transfer coins for several reasons, including changing custody arrangements, consolidating wallets, improving security, or managing assets.

In this case, the destination was not identified as a cryptocurrency exchange, so the available transaction data does not show that the coins entered the market for sale.

The reason for the transfer is also unknown.

Long-dormant bitcoin wallets continue to move

The transaction follows other instances of older Bitcoin holdings becoming active after years of inactivity.

In July, a Bitcoin wallet that had been inactive for approximately 8.6 years moved around $383 million worth of BTC to a new address. There was also no immediate indication that the coins had been sold.

Earlier in June, an Ethereum wallet associated with HashFlare became active after roughly 3.5 years, moving approximately $18.5 million worth of ETH.

The transactions involved different circumstances, but they illustrate how blockchain records can reveal movements involving assets that have remained in the same wallets for extended periods.

What the transaction shows

The latest transfer highlights the substantial appreciation of Bitcoin holdings acquired during the cryptocurrency’s early years.

In 2011, Bitcoin traded at prices measured in the low double digits, meaning even a relatively small holding from that period can represent a significant amount today.

However, the transaction itself provides little information about the holder’s intentions.

Without evidence of an exchange deposit or another identifiable sale-related transaction, the movement is best described as a wallet transfer rather than confirmed selling activity.

The address has now moved the 10 BTC after more than 15 years, but what the owner plans to do with the coins cannot be determined from the blockchain data alone.
