Rockstar Games released the official launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) on October 15, 2026, offering another look at Vice City and its two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, ahead of the game’s November 19 release.
The 90-second official trailer introduces new scenes from the game’s criminal storyline in the fictional state of Leonida. It also features music from French electronic duo Justice, who composed the game’s original score.
However, one question that has followed GTA 6 for years remains unanswered: Will Rockstar introduce cryptocurrency into the game?
Despite repeated claims that Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether’s USDT could become part of the GTA 6 economy, Rockstar has not announced support for any cryptocurrency, blockchain-based payments or non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The October 15 trailer makes no such announcement, while the game’s official promotional material continues to focus on its story, characters, gameplay and virtual world.
Where Did the GTA 6 Cryptocurrency Rumors Begin?
Speculation about cryptocurrency in GTA 6 dates back to 2021, when gaming insider Tom Henderson claimed that the upcoming title could feature fictional cryptocurrency payments as rewards for certain missions.
The suggestion was that some characters might receive digital currency instead of conventional cash, reflecting the growing use of cryptocurrency in the real world.
However, Henderson’s claims were never confirmed by Rockstar. In February 2026 an alleged insider suggested the proposed feature had been abandoned during development.
The rumors gained further traction in July 2024 when a social media account claimed that Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT payments had been confirmed for GTA 6.
That claim spread widely despite having no official source. At the time, neither Rockstar nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, had announced such an integration.
More recently, speculation has extended to purported blockchain-based virtual currencies and the possibility of cryptocurrency wallets within the game. These claims also remain unsupported by official announcements.
What Does the New GTA 6 Trailer Reveal?
The 90-second launch trailer, released on October 15, provides a closer look at the criminal storyline involving Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the two playable protagonists of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Unlike the previous extended gameplay presentation released on August 27, the latest trailer focuses primarily on the characters, their relationship and the events that draw them into a criminal conspiracy spanning Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida.
The trailer opens with Jason discussing his troubled military past, revealing that he got into trouble while serving in the army and left under unfavorable circumstances. His financial difficulties appear to be one factor behind his involvement in criminal activities.
Another scene shows Jason receiving a telephone call from Lucia while she is in prison. The footage later follows the pair as they reunite and become involved in increasingly dangerous criminal activities.
Rockstar also showcases several locations across Leonida, including the Miami-inspired Vice City, coastal highways, waterways, beaches and nightlife districts. The footage includes robberies, police confrontations, nightclub scenes and high-speed action sequences.
One of the major sequences involves a robbery that appears to go wrong, placing Jason and Lucia in a larger criminal conspiracy. According to Rockstar’s official announcement, the two characters must rely on each other to survive as the conspiracy spreads across the state.
The trailer also introduces new music from French electronic duo Justice, who composed the game’s original score. Their new track, “Flower in a Hurricane,” features Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The song is included in Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, which is available for pre-save on major streaming platforms and for physical pre-order.
The footage was captured on PlayStation 5, with Rockstar continuing to promote the game ahead of its November 19, 2026, release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release date has not been announced.
However, despite the trailer’s extensive focus on criminal activities, money and the game’s virtual environment, it does not introduce a cryptocurrency system or confirm any use of Bitcoin, Ethereum or blockchain-based transactions.
That omission is notable because speculation about cryptocurrency payments in GTA 6 has circulated for several years, including unverified claims that certain missions could reward players with digital assets rather than conventional in-game cash.
Rockstar Previously Restricted Cryptocurrency and NFTs in GTA Servers
Rockstar’s existing policies provide an important counterpoint to speculation that GTA 6 could introduce blockchain-based assets.
In November 2022, the company introduced restrictions targeting commercial exploitation of third-party Grand Theft Auto role-playing servers. Those restrictions included cryptocurrency integrations and NFTs.
At the time, the policy specifically identified cryptocurrency and digital asset integrations among the activities subject to enforcement. The restrictions were directed at third-party servers rather than an outright prohibition on Rockstar developing cryptocurrency-related content in its own games.
Nevertheless, the policy shows that the company has previously taken a restrictive approach toward allowing independent operators to commercialize blockchain assets using its gaming ecosystem.
Rockstar’s current role-playing server guidance also requires community servers to follow the company’s licensing agreements and associated policies.
Does GTA 6 Have an In-Game Cryptocurrency?
Rockstar has not confirmed any cryptocurrency functionality in GTA 6, and information released ahead of the game’s launch suggests its economy will operate through conventional virtual money.
Following Rockstar’s extended gameplay presentation in August 2026, gaming creator TGG, who reportedly attended an additional private preview at Rockstar North, described three forms of money in the game: bank deposits, physical cash and stolen valuables carried in a duffel bag. However, the preview did not identify cryptocurrency as a fourth payment system.
That account is not an official confirmation that cryptocurrency is absent from every part of the game. It does, however, provide more concrete evidence about the planned economy than the older social media rumors.
There is also an important difference between featuring cryptocurrency as part of a fictional storyline and supporting real blockchain transactions. Rockstar could depict Bitcoin, digital wallets or cryptocurrency-related crime inside GTA 6 without allowing players to transfer actual BTC or Ethereum.
The company has not confirmed either type of implementation.
Could Rockstar Introduce Crypto After GTA 6 Launches?
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a cryptocurrency feature for launch or outlined plans to introduce one through subsequent updates.
Its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has previously expressed interest in Web3 opportunities. During its acquisition of mobile gaming company Zynga in 2022, Take-Two discussed the potential to explore emerging digital technologies. However, those broader business interests have not translated into a confirmed GTA 6 blockchain announcement.
With the official release just over a month away, the October 15 trailer has answered more questions about GTA 6’s story, soundtrack and setting, but none about cryptocurrency.
For now, claims that players will earn Bitcoin, trade NFTs or use blockchain-based money in GTA 6 remain speculation rather than announced features.
