The Blaine Police Department is sounding the alarm over a sophisticated Bitcoin scam that has already fleeced victims out of thousands of dollars. The scheme begins with a pop-up message claiming suspicious activity on the victim’s bank account, providing a number to call “Microsoft support.”
Once on the line, scammers convince panicked victims to withdraw large sums of cash and deposit it into a Bitcoin ATM at a local gas station under the guise of reversing fraudulent charges. However, this simply transfers the funds directly into the criminals’ digital wallet, making the money nearly impossible to recover.
The department urges citizens to spread awareness and report any suspected Bitcoin scam attempts immediately.
