Hal Finney's Twitter Account Lives Through his Wife Fran Finney

Bitcoin pioneer Hal Finney’s wife Fran Finney, revived his Twitter account after learning that Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, could delete the account due to inactivity. Hal Finney was the computer scientist who received the first transaction on the Bitcoin blockchain from Satoshi Nakamoto.

On December 16, the crypto community noticed that Finney’s account had activity for the first time in more than 12 years. People started suspecting a potential hack, But Fran Finney came forward to clear things up.

“This is @franfinney. I am tweeting for Hal (as @pavlenex thought) to avoid his account being purged by Elon,” Fran replied.

I appreciate how people monitor Hal's account. Thank you.

Hal Finney was one of the first Bitcoin testers to connect with the Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. He received 10 Bitcoin from Satoshi on January 12, 2009, making it the very first Bitcoin transfer ever made.

Hal Finneys Twitter account was inactive since 2010. In 2014 Finney passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Recently, Elon Musk announced Twitter will soon start freeing the namespace of 1.5 billion accounts. “These are obvious account deletions with no tweets & no log-in for years,” Musk added.

Fran Finney confirmed Hal Finney’s account reactivation is to avoid being purged by Elon Musk.

“I want to keep Hal’s account active, and occasionally will be posting from his account. When I do post, I will continue to tag myself as the poster,” Fran added.

The crypto community is happy Fran Finney took over Hal’s account before the purge as it contains so many precious old messages, tweets, and forum posts which is a piece of Bitcoin history.
