Cross River Bank, a technology infrastructure platform, is integrating Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin into its banking platform, adding an XRP Ledger-based settlement option for fintech companies and payment networks.
The integration, announced on October 15, will allow customers to access RLUSD through Cross River’s proprietary Core Operating System (COS) and use it alongside existing banking payment services. The bank will support transactions on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), enabling customers to move between U.S. dollars and RLUSD through a single API connection.
The arrangement adds another settlement method to Cross River’s payment infrastructure, which supports Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers, wire payments, and real-time transactions. Customers will not need to deploy their own blockchain infrastructure to access the stablecoin, according to the companies.
Cross River and Ripple said the integration is designed to support cross-border payments, treasury transfers, and intraday settlement. The service is currently available only in a limited number of U.S. states.
RLUSD adds a blockchain settlement option
The integration places RLUSD within Cross River’s existing banking technology rather than requiring customers to use a separate blockchain-based payment system. Payment networks, including issuers and acquirers, will have another option for settling transactions. The companies said the arrangement is intended to reduce settlement delays and allow payment and treasury movements outside conventional banking hours.
RLUSD transactions on the XRPL can be processed around the clock. Ripple cites settlement times of approximately three to five seconds and transaction fees of less than one cent on the network.
Adam Goller, head of fintech banking at Cross River, said the integration builds on the bank’s existing stablecoin infrastructure. He said fintech customers would be able to access dollar-to-stablecoin transfers, cross-border payments and treasury movements alongside traditional banking services.
Cross River integrates RLUSD into banking platform
Cross River’s Core Operating System serves as the technology layer connecting its banking services with payment networks and other financial infrastructure. By adding RLUSD, the bank is expanding the payment methods available through its platform. The integration also allows businesses to access blockchain-based settlement without independently managing the underlying network infrastructure.
Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX at Ripple, said the partnership brings RLUSD and the XRP Ledger into an existing banking platform used by fintech businesses. The arrangement reflects a broader effort by financial institutions and payment providers to incorporate stablecoins into existing payment infrastructure rather than operate them through separate systems.
RLUSD market capitalization tops $2.5 billion
The integration comes as Ripple expands RLUSD’s presence in the stablecoin market. The company said the token’s market capitalization has exceeded $2.5 billion, with more than $1 billion issued on the XRP Ledger. However, RLUSD’s market capitalization (on October 15 at 3:34 PM UTC) stood at $2.417 billion, according to CoinGecko data.
RLUSD is a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. Its integration with Cross River will add another banking platform through which eligible fintech customers can access the token for payment and settlement services.
Cross River did not specify how many customers would initially receive access or provide a timeline for expanding availability beyond the states currently supported.
Ripple expands RLUSD and institutional services
Cross River’s integration comes as Ripple pursues additional partnerships with financial firms to expand the use of RLUSD and its institutional infrastructure.
On October 14, DriveWealth announced plans to integrate RLUSD into its global brokerage infrastructure, initially supporting stablecoin settlements in Europe before a planned U.S. expansion. The arrangement also includes Ripple Payments for cross-border transfers and work on digital asset custody requirements in Europe.
Separately, Ripple Prime launched real-world asset-linked perpetual swap markets covering more than 100 traditional asset reference markets, including equities, indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange. Announced on October 15, the products are available around the clock, including weekends. Ripple Prime trades them as principal, referencing perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid.
Ripple has also expanded its institutional and developer partnerships. On October 14, South Korean securities firm Meritz Securities agreed to explore digital asset custody and tokenization services using Ripple’s infrastructure. The following day, Privy announced an integration that will allow developers to create and manage XRP Ledger wallets through its infrastructure, supporting applications involving XRP, RLUSD, and other digital assets.
