SEC to Host Crypto Regulation Roundtable on March 21

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced a new initiative to clarify cryptocurrency regulations through its “Spring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity” roundtable series.

As per the announcement, the first session, titled “How We Got Here and How We Get Out – Defining Security Status,” will take place on March 21 at the SEC headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The event will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on SEC.gov. A recording will be made available later. While the main discussion will be public, smaller breakout sessions will not be broadcast.

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, who leads the Crypto Task Force, said the goal is to create a clear and workable regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.

This initiative represents a significant shift in the SEC’s stance under Acting Chair Mark Uyeda, who launched the Crypto Task Force in January as part of President Donald Trump’s push to ease regulatory pressure on the crypto industry.

The task force’s mission is to establish clear regulatory guidelines, create practical paths to registration, and ensure balanced enforcement. It consists of 14 members, including longtime SEC staff and experts from the crypto industry.

Michael Selig is the chief counsel of the task force. Before joining the SEC, he was a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where he advised crypto, NFT, and stablecoin companies.

Landon Zinda has been appointed senior adviser and previously worked as policy director at Coin Center, a group that supports crypto advocacy. Sumeera Younis, who served as policy counsel for Commissioner Peirce, is the operations chief.

Richard Gabbert is now the chief of staff who worked as counsel to Peirce in the past. Taylor Asher is the chief policy adviser and formerly advised Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda.

The SEC will share more details, including the agenda and speakers, on its Crypto Task Force webpage in the coming days. The public can also request meetings with the task force.
