The Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov made an announcement to cancel the Airdrop just a few hours before the Snapshots were going to be taken. Instead, he indicated the launch of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In the latest tweet, he ended the possibility of Airdrop.
This news could be unpleasant for many crypto donors, who have donated crypto after the revelation of Airdrop. Many people were hoping for new tokens or NFTs in the Airdrop. But the latest tweet of the Vice Prime Minister ended every possibility of the government “to issue any fungible tokens”.
Now, the government has a plan to launch an NFT collection, and proceeds generated from the NFT sale will be used for Ukrainian Armed forces to stand strong against Russian aggressors.
However, Mykhailo Fedorov did not reveal core details about the NFT marketplace or any theme for the collection.
After the announcement of Airdrop, a sudden hike was seen in the crypto donations. It prompted an influx of microdonations on the Ethereum blockchain. Thousands of small donations ranging from 0.0001 to 0.01 ETH flooded the Ethereum blockchain to get the benefit of the airdrop.
To take advantage in the name of government welfare programs and hike in crypto donations, an opportunist has surfaced ‘World’ tokens to crypto donors from an unknown address to deceive people through the phishing scam.
Luckily some blockchain analysts got attention on this scam and raised concern over these fake tokens, which were not a part of any government airdrop.
Etherscan also raised an alert and wrote caution, “This token is reported to have been used for misleading people into believing it was sent from a well-known address and maybe spam or phishing. Please treat it with caution”.
The latest tweet from the vice prime minister made crystal clear that there will be no ‘airdrop’ for crypto donors, despite the government choosing NFTs to raise funds for Ukrainian personnels.
