Korea’s POSCO, LG CNS Select Injective for Tokenized Trade Finance

Key Highlights

  • POSCO International and LG CNS completed their first on-chain trade finance pilot using the Injective blockchain.
  • The pilot demonstrated tokenized trade receivables, AI-assisted document review, compliance controls, and regulated issuance.
  • Injective aims to bring faster, lower-cost blockchain infrastructure to the $5 trillion global trade finance market.

Korea’s largest trading company, POSCO International, together with technology firm LG CNS, has selected the Injective blockchain as the partner for their first on-chain trade finance pilot.

According to the official announcement, the project completed a live transaction that used trade receivables generated from actual commercial activity. The pilot demonstrated several key capabilities, including programmable tokenized receivables, built-in compliance controls, regulated issuance infrastructure, AI-assisted trade document review, and institutional-grade on-chain infrastructure.

Trade finance underpins more than $5 trillion in annual financing globally. According to Injective, the network’s architecture delivers the speed, low transaction fees, and novel real-world asset issuance routes required for institutional use cases.

Building on prior foundation

Earlier this month, Injective announced it had filed its transfer agent registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing, unveiled during the Injective Summit, was intended to establish a regulated pathway for issuing and managing securities directly on-chain in the United States.

The team stated that the registration moves the platform closer to becoming a leading blockchain capable of handling securities ownership records in a compliant manner. This earlier regulatory progress provides additional context for the Korean pilot, illustrating Injective’s broader effort to position itself as infrastructure suitable for institutional and regulated financial activity.

The Korean initiative builds on that foundation by applying the network’s capabilities to a concrete trade-finance workflow involving major corporate participants.

What the pilot means for institutions

For institutional users and corporate treasury teams, the pilot indicates that tokenized trade receivables can be issued, transferred, and settled on a public blockchain while maintaining compliance controls and regulated issuance processes.

The workflow also introduces AI-assisted document review, which is intended to reduce manual verification requirements during trade finance operations.

Retail users and developers, meanwhile, see a clearer path for real-world assets to move on-chain under institutional standards, potentially expanding the range of compliant financial products available on Injective.

The real test comes next

While the pilot successfully demonstrated the technology in a live commercial transaction, it represents an early-stage implementation.

Regulatory acceptance outside the specific pilot framework, integration with legacy banking systems, and the operational readiness of counterparties will determine whether the model expands. Injective’s recent SEC transfer-agent filing is only a registration step, not final approval, and any delays or conditions could slow U.S. institutional uptake.

The long-term adoption of tokenized trade receivables will likely depend on further commercial deployments, broader market participation, and continued regulatory development.
