MoonPay Brings AI Payments to ChatGPT and Claude With PayBox

Key Highlights

  • MoonPay has launched PayBox, allowing ChatGPT and Claude users to buy crypto, swap tokens, bridge assets, and use DeFi through AI conversations.
  • PayBox keeps users in control by requiring transaction approval or following user-set spending limits while protecting funds with advanced security.
  • The launch expands MoonPay’s AI strategy, following its recent acquisition of AI finance platform Entendre.

MoonPay, a crypto payments firm, has launched PayBox, a payment vault that allows ChatGPT and Claude users to complete crypto transactions through a normal conversation while staying in control of their money.

According to the official release, PayBox is now live. It allows users to buy crypto, swap tokens, move assets between blockchains, and use decentralized finance without leaving the chat. Instead of navigating multiple apps and websites, users can simply describe what they want to do, and the AI prepares the transaction for approval.

How PayBox works with ChatGPT and Claude

The company said the idea behind this product is to make sure crypto continues to be easier to access. After connecting a crypto wallet and payment method to ChatGPT or Claude through a custom connector, users can type simple requests in plain language.

The AI assistant then looks at the request, prepares the transaction, and gets it ready. MoonPay confirmed that nothing is completed unless it follows the permission settings chosen by the user, giving people control over how much freedom they want the AI to have.

Users can buy crypto on the platform with regular cash, swap one token for another, move assets from one blockchain to another, and deposit funds into decentralized finance protocols.

The platform can also handle some everyday tasks, including booking flights, making restaurant reservations, and shopping with supported online stores. MoonPay says all of these actions can be started with simple text prompts instead of going through several different steps.

Users choose how much control the AI can have

According to MoonPay, users can choose between two permission options. The first is called “Always Ask,” which requires users to approve every transaction with a passkey before it is completed.

The second option is “Autonomous,” which allows the AI assistant to complete certain actions on its own within spending limits and rules set by the user. If a user wants to change these permissions later, they must approve the change with another passkey.

MoonPay also said each approval works for only one action and expires after it has been used, stopping it from being reused for another transaction.

Security keeps funds and wallet keys protected

According to the company, PayBox uses multi-party computation (MPC) and trusted execution environments (TEEs) to protect wallet keys. Instead of keeping the private key in one place, it is divided and stored across secure hardware environments. This means neither MoonPay nor the AI assistant can access the full key or move a user’s funds by themselves.

Card payments are handled through Visa’s agentic commerce protocol, allowing payments to be completed without exposing or storing the user’s card number.

Support for multiple payment methods and blockchains

MoonPay said PayBox works with several payment methods, including crypto wallets, debit cards, bank accounts, Apple Pay, and PayPal. It also supports Solana and EVM-compatible networks such as Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid, Tempo, and Robinhood Chain.

PayBox also integrates with x402, an open payment protocol originally developed by Coinbase that enables AI agents to make internet-native payments.

The protocol was contributed to the Linux Foundation in April 2026 and is now managed as an open, vendor-neutral industry standard. MoonPay said its first x402 integrations include travel bookings, restaurant reservations, and purchases from major online retailers.

PayBox builds on MoonPay’s AI expansion

PayBox is the latest addition to MoonPay’s broader AI strategy.

Earlier this year, the company introduced the MoonAgents Desktop App, which allows users who mostly access the platform via desktop to fund their wallets, trade crypto, and automate blockchain tasks with AI using simple text prompts.

Last month, MoonPay also acquired Entendre, an AI-powered finance operations platform, saying the deal will help crypto and stablecoin businesses automate accounting and other financial work carried out after transactions are completed.
