Wallets linked to MARA Holdings, one of the largest publicly listed bitcoin mining companies, have deposited 1,000 Bitcoin (BTC), worth around about $82.8 million at current prices, into crypto exchanges Binance and Gate over the past five days, according to on-chain data from blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain.
Lookonchain, which tracks large wallet movements on public blockchains, reported the transfers on October 19, 2026, and said the activity appeared consistent with possible selling. The firm also shared an Arkham Intelligence explorer page for one of the addresses involved. Arkham Intelligence is a blockchain analytics platform that labels wallets belonging to known companies, funds, and individuals.
MARA Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: MARA), formerly known as Marathon Digital Holdings, has not issued a public statement on the deposits at the time of writing. A transfer to an exchange does not by itself confirm a sale. Such deposits can also relate to custody arrangements, collateral management, or other operational needs.
Second Large MARA Transfer This Month
The deposits follow another large movement earlier in October. Around October 8 and 9, 2026, a wallet labeled “MARA Miner” moved 996.105 BTC, then worth about $81.13 million, to an address associated with Galaxy Digital, a digital asset financial services and investment firm. Blockchain records confirmed that transfer but did not show whether the coins were later sold.
Taken together, the two batches account for roughly 1,996 BTC moved from MARA-linked addresses in October.
What MARA’s Latest Filing Shows
According to MARA’s second quarter (Q2) 2026 shareholder letter, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company held 35,577 BTC as of June 30, 2026. That total included 9,270 BTC that were loaned out or pledged as collateral, and it marked a 29% decline from a year earlier.
During Q2, MARA mined 2,422 BTC, sold 2,213 BTC at an average price of $73,078, and bought no Bitcoin, the same filing shows. The quarter followed a heavier round of disposals earlier in the year, when MARA sold nearly $1 billion worth of Bitcoin to cut its debt by about 30%.
In the letter, MARA said it historically held the Bitcoin it produced as a long-term investment, began selling in 2025 to fund operations, and expects to keep selling Bitcoin opportunistically during 2026 to provide liquidity or fund capital projects, depending on market conditions. The company also disclosed two Bitcoin-backed credit facilities with Coinbase and Two Prime totaling $600 million, entered into after the quarter ended, to help fund its pending acquisition of power generation business Long Ridge as it expands into artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure.
That approach has set MARA apart from corporate bitcoin holders such as Strive that continue to accumulate.
MARA Stock Performance
MARA shares closed at $7.53 on Friday, October 16, 2026, down 9.60% for the session, giving the company a market capitalization of about $2.91 billion. The stock has traded between $6.66 and $22.09 over the past 52 weeks.
Until MARA comments on the transfers, the purpose of the Binance and Gate deposits remains unconfirmed.
