Flowra and KorDA Explore Gold-Backed Funding for Solana Validators

The 12-month MOU will examine whether KGLD can be used as collateral to obtain SOL for validator delegation, linking tokenized gold with Solana infrastructure.

Flowra and KorDA Explore Gold-Backed Funding for Solana Validators

Key Highlights

  • Flowra and Korea Gold Exchange Digital Asset (KorDA) signed a 12-month MOU to study a gold-backed model for Solana validator infrastructure.
  • The proposed structure would use KGLD, a gold-backed digital asset, as collateral to obtain SOL.
  • The SOL could be delegated to eligible Solana validators through a proposed Flowra-KorDA Delegation Program.

Flowra Ltd., a blockchain infrastructure company and Korea Gold Exchange Digital Asset Co. (KorDA), a fintech company, have signed a 12-month memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore whether a gold-backed digital asset can be used to support Solana validator infrastructure.

The agreement does not launch a validator financing product, instead, the companies will use the MOU period to assess the proposed structure, potential participants, and regulatory requirements.

The model would center on KGLD, a gold-backed digital asset held or managed by KorDA or an authorized affiliate.

KGLD could be used as collateral for SOL

Under the proposed structure, KGLD could be pledged as collateral to obtain SOL.

The SOL could then be delegated to Solana validators through infrastructure provided by Flowra.

The model would give a tokenized real-world asset a potential role in blockchain infrastructure financing, although the companies have not finalized the collateral terms or financing structure.

Any transaction involving KGLD would also be subject to legal review, due diligence, and separate agreements.

Flowra and KorDA consider validator program

The companies are also evaluating a potential Flowra-KorDA Delegation Program (FKDP).

Under the proposed program, SOL could be sourced from parties including the Solana Foundation, exchanges, institutional investors, lending providers and large SOL holders.

The SOL could then be allocated to qualifying validators.

The MOU does not specify how much SOL could be sourced or how many validators could participate. The companies would also need to establish criteria for validator selection, delegation, and the distribution of staking-related revenue.

Companies would handle separate responsibilities

Flowra and KorDA would have different roles under the proposed arrangement.

To begin with, Flowra would provide Solana infrastructure, including its Open Orderflow Auction (OOA), Programmable Block Policy (PBP) and block-engine technology.

Meanwhile, KorDA would oversee validator operations, including servers, monitoring and key management.

The two companies would jointly assess validator selection and the management of delegated SOL and related revenues.

Flowra would not custody KGLD

Flowra said it would not custody the KGLD collateral under the proposed structure.

If the arrangement moves forward, the collateral could be held through an independent custodian, escrow arrangement, or multisignature wallet and kept separate from Flowra’s assets.

The final custody structure has not been determined and would depend on legal, regulatory and operational reviews.

Gold-backed assets gain more crypto use cases

The MOU follows other efforts to bring gold-backed digital assets into blockchain and payment applications.

In June 2026, Paxos launched PAXG on Solana, bringing its physically backed gold token to the network and enabling integration with Solana-based applications.

Earlier that month, Tether and Fasset announced a gold-backed Visa card, exploring the use of tokenized gold for payments.

Those projects have different objectives from the Flowra-KorDA proposal. PAXG’s Solana launch focused on expanding access to tokenized gold within the network’s ecosystem, while the Tether-Fasset initiative focused on payments.

The Flowra-KorDA MOU instead examines whether a gold-backed asset can be used as collateral to obtain SOL for blockchain infrastructure.

MOU leaves key details unresolved

The agreement has an initial 12-month term, during which the companies will assess the feasibility of the proposed structure.

Key details remain unresolved, including the amount of SOL that could be sourced, validator eligibility, KGLD collateral requirements, custody arrangements, and revenue distribution.

The regulatory treatment of the structure will also need to be established before any financing or delegation arrangement can begin.

For now, the MOU does not represent a completed lending facility or validator deployment.

The next step will be determining whether the proposed structure can move forward through definitive agreements, regulatory approvals, and a live delegation program.
