Why is Helium up today ?
The price advance coincided with a reported conversion of citywide Wi-Fi networks in Celina, Texas, into carrier coverage on the Helium network. Celina has recorded rapid population growth. Census Bureau estimates released in May showed the city added more than 12,700 residents in a single year, a 24.6 percent increase.
That rate ranked as the highest among U.S. cities with more than 20,000 residents, exceeding the absolute resident gains of Seattle and Houston in the same period.
Celina, Texas Network Conversion
According to a Helium blog post on August 28, new schools, fire stations, and residential neighborhoods have continued to appear on former pastureland. Traditional cell-tower construction involves multi-year planning, permitting, and capital outlays measured in millions of dollars. Indoor coverage can also degrade when signals encounter modern building materials, even when outdoor maps indicate adequate service.
Celina is listed among U.S. municipalities that have turned to the Helium Network to address coverage shortfalls. Other cities cited in the same context include Redondo Beach, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Sausalito, California. The Helium Network is described as spanning more than 42,000 locations across the United States and serving more than 2.5 million people each day.
The combination of the recorded 73.2 percent daily price increase, the documented 24-hour volume of $43.22 million, and the concurrent report of Celina’s Wi-Fi-to-carrier conversion on the Helium Network constitutes the factual record surrounding the move to $0.3821.
