Key Highlights
- Coinbase shares rose as much as 10.4% from Thursday’s close to an intraday high of $190.23 on Friday.
- Bitcoin and the broader crypto market rallied sharply, while U.S. Treasury bond buybacks and regulatory developments added to risk appetite.
- DBS maintains a $200 target on COIN, while Bernstein analysts have reiterated Buy ratings with $330 price targets.
Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: COIN) shares surged more than 10% on Friday, reaching an intraday high of $190.23 as a broad cryptocurrency rally and renewed optimism around U.S. crypto regulation lifted digital asset-linked stocks.
COIN entered the session after closing at $172.35 on Thursday and opened at $180.04. Google Finance data showed the stock trading at $190.08 at 10:06 a.m. ET, up 10.28%, before it pulled back toward $187 later in the morning.

The move extended gains from the previous session, when Coinbase rose alongside Bitcoin and other crypto stocks. Yahoo Finance reported that COIN was already up 7.1% in premarket trading Friday as investors responded to the improving crypto market and regulatory backdrop.
Crypto Market Rally Lifts Coinbase Stock
The wider crypto market provided one of the strongest catalysts for Coinbase on Friday as Bitcoin, Ethereum and major altcoins extended their recovery.
Bitcoin traded above $75,000, while Ethereum traded near $2,400 and XRP around $1.38. Bitcoin has gained about 21% this week, while Ethereum has climbed roughly 26%, showing that the rebound has spread beyond BTC into the wider digital asset market.
The broader recovery is supportive for Coinbase because higher cryptocurrency prices and stronger market participation can translate into more trading activity on its platform. The relationship was also visible across Wall Street in the previous session, with other crypto-linked equities rising alongside COIN as enthusiasm returned to the sector. The latest move follows a sharp reversal from the weakness seen across crypto earlier in August.
Treasury Bond Buybacks Improve Risk Appetite
The crypto rally accelerated after the U.S. Treasury said it would double buyback sizes for longer-duration government debt following a sharp bond selloff.
The announcement provided some relief to risk assets after the 30-year Treasury yield had climbed to its highest level since 2007. Bitcoin moved back above $70,000 following the announcement, while Coinbase and other crypto-linked stocks also advanced.
According to google finance data, Coinbase gained 6.05% on Thursday as the Treasury move and improving crypto regulatory expectations pushed investors back toward digital assets.
Friday’s advance therefore built on an existing two-day rotation into crypto rather than a Coinbase-specific announcement during the session.
White House Crypto Push Adds Regulatory Catalyst
U.S. regulatory developments have added another catalyst for Coinbase.
President Donald Trump called on Congress Wednesday to pass a “fair version” of the CLARITY Act during a White House event attended by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev and senior U.S. regulators.
Trump’s comments brought renewed attention to legislation intended to establish clearer divisions between SEC and CFTC oversight of digital assets. The Crypto Times previously reported that Coinbase expects the next procedural CLARITY Act vote on September 15.
Armstrong has been directly involved in the legislative push and had previously urged senators to move the CLARITY Act to a vote.
The regulatory backdrop has also broadened beyond Congress. The SEC recently proposed a new framework for crypto offerings, while The Crypto Times reported that the agency is moving ahead with its own crypto rules as congressional negotiations continue.
Coinbase Business Mix Adds to Investor Interest
Coinbase entered the rally with investors also reassessing its underlying business following second-quarter results.
According to StocksToTrade, Coinbase reached a record 10.3% share of global crypto trading volume in Q2 2026, marking its third consecutive quarter at a record market-share level.
The company also recorded its 14th consecutive quarter of positive adjusted EBITDA, while subscription and services generated $555 million in Q2 revenue. Those businesses now represent close to half of Coinbase’s net revenue, reducing its dependence on spot trading fees alone.
Coinbase has simultaneously expanded into derivatives, prediction markets, stablecoins and tokenized securities, giving investors exposure to more than a recovery in retail crypto trading.
Is $200 Next for Coinbase Stock?
Friday’s $190.23 intraday high leaves Coinbase only about 5.1% below $200, bringing the round-number level into the stock’s immediate price range.
Recent analyst targets also put $200 directly into focus. According to Google Finance analyst data, DBS analyst Manyi Lu maintained a Hold rating and $200 price target on August 13, while fellow DBS analyst Ken Shih maintained a $200 target on May 21.
Bernstein analysts see substantially more upside than DBS. Gautam Chhugani reiterated a Buy rating with a $330 price target on August 3, while Ian S. Moore reiterated a Buy rating and $330 target on July 1, according to the same Google Finance data.
The analyst targets are valuation estimates rather than predictions that Coinbase will reach those prices immediately. However, Friday’s rally has already brought COIN close to DBS’s $200 valuation, while Bernstein’s $330 target shows that some Wall Street analysts see room for the stock to trade considerably above that level.
A renewed move through Friday’s $190.23 high would leave $200 as the next major round-number level. The path will remain closely tied to whether Bitcoin and the broader crypto market hold their gains and whether the current regulatory momentum in Washington continues into September.
Coinbase has now gained on a combination of stronger crypto prices, improving risk appetite and a more favorable U.S. policy backdrop. With COIN less than 6% away from $200 at Friday’s peak, the next test is whether those catalysts can keep buyers in the stock after its two-day surge.
