BNB Chain Pursues Legal Action Over Ex-Employee Meme Token

Key Highlights

  • BNB Chain denied any involvement in a meme token launched using a wallet linked to a former employee.
  • The company is pursuing legal action and urged users to rely only on official channels.
  • The incident comes amid recent security and reputational challenges as BNB Chain pursues institutional adoption.

BNB Chain issued a public statement, distancing itself from a meme token launched through a wallet originally created by a former employee for a video tutorial.

In an X post on Saturday, BNB Chain said the former employee retained unauthorized access to the wallet’s seed phrase after leaving the company. The individual allegedly generated a new private key and deployed a meme token using the same wallet address.

A wallet address was previously created by a former employee, which they then used to generate a token, as part of a video tutorial. That individual is no longer with the company as part of this incident.

BNB Chain said it had no role in creating, authorizing, promoting, or endorsing the token and holds no control over the associated wallet or asset. The blockchain network confirmed it is pursuing legal action against the former employee and cooperating with relevant authorities.

The Crypto Times team reached out to the BNB Chain team for a comment on the matter, but hasn’t received a response at the time of publication.

BNB Chain rejects any link to the meme coin

In its statement, BNB Chain urged users not to associate the token with the project and advised them to rely only on its verified communication channels for official information.

The company reiterated that it neither controls nor endorses the token and said any claims suggesting otherwise are misleading.

Recent exploits keep security in focus

The latest incident follows another security-related event involving the BNB Chain ecosystem.

On July 28, cybersecurity firm Blockaid reported an active exploit draining the Pro token linked to a Crypto DAO on the network.

The attack resulted in approximately $8.2 million in USDT being transferred to an exploiter wallet (0x427671b2C8e91034A91FE698F9B7259b2345F45D) and connected addresses. DeFiLlama categorized the loss under “Protocol Logic (Solidity),” highlighting ongoing smart contract vulnerabilities despite the chain’s efforts to strengthen security.

The incident also comes weeks after BNB Chain unveiled its H2 2026 technical roadmap on July 8. The update focuses on evolving the network into infrastructure optimized for artificial intelligence, stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), and next-generation financial applications.

Rather than emphasizing raw transaction speed alone, the roadmap aims to position BNB Chain as a leading platform for institutional adoption by banks, payment providers, and RWA issuers.

At the time of this writing, BNB was trading at $577.84, down 2.2% in the last 24 hours, with a market capitalization around $76.94 billion. The 24-hour price chart shows a sharp decline from approximately $593.95 earlier in the session, forming a clear downtrend throughout the day.

Volume stands at $1.06 billion with a 20.85% drop, indicating reduced buying interest amid the negative news flow. BNB remains significantly below its all-time high of $1,370.55 (October 2025), reflecting a -57.82% drawdown.

Incident adds to reputational challenges

The latest disclosure adds to a series of recent incidents affecting the BNB Chain ecosystem.

Combined with the recent PRO token exploit, the case highlights the operational and security challenges the network continues to face as it expands its focus on institutional adoption, AI infrastructure, and tokenized assets.

The outcome of the company’s legal action and any additional security measures could be closely watched as BNB Chain continues executing its long-term roadmap.
