Average Ethereum Gas Fees Drop To $0.40, Lowest Since July 2020

The average transaction fees on Ethereum has dropped to its lowest level since July 2020 with the amount dropping as low as $0.40 in the past week.

According to Etherscan data, the average transaction fee on Ethereum currently costs around $0.40, although it depends on the transaction type. For a simple token swap on Uniswap, it costs $0.70 on average and $0.11 for a simple USDT transfer.

This drastic drop in ETH gas comes as Ethereum undergoes major developments in recent months, including increased gas limit for blocks and with the introduction of blob transactions.

Since the past few months, the price of ETH has also been lagging behind as it prepares for major movements. As per Coinmarketcap data, ETH is currency trading around $2,800, down 15% in the past month.

“When Ethereum transaction fees are low, it usually means the network is not overly crowded,” states Santiment, a market intelligence platform, adding “When users are not paying high prices to move their ETH or tokens, it is typically a good sign for mid-term and long-term price outlooks.”

Sentiment believes that while such low levels in transactions price is often considered a bearish signal for a blockchain network, it also open ups an opportunity for newcomers to enter the market.
