MicroStrategy, the cloud software company, has announced a significant Bitcoin acquisition, purchasing approximately 18,300 BTC between August 6 and September 12, 2024.
According to the company’s Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the purchase totaled $1.11 billion at an average price of $60,408 per bitcoin, including expenses and fees.
Led by CEO Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy has steadily increased its Bitcoin holdings over the past four years, beginning with its first purchase in August 2020. In July, MicroStrategy added 169 BTC worth $11.4 million to their Bitcoin holdings.
As of September 12, 2024, the company holds 244,800 BTC, acquired for around $9.45 billion at an average price of $38,585 per Bitcoin. Additionally, MicroStrategy reported a Bitcoin yield of 4.4% for the current quarter and 17.0% year-to-date.
