In the past day, an Ethereum bot operator under the name “jaredfromsubway.eth” has splurged over 210 ETH (approximately $810,000) on gas fees, marking a significant 1.5% of all gas fees spent on the Ethereum network during this timeframe. This makes them the top spender in terms of gas fees in the last 24 hours, according to data from Etherscan.
This particular bot is known for its high-frequency engagement and targets traders dealing with on-chain memecoins. These memecoins, like Pepe, Wojak, Turbo, and Mog, have been witnessing a resurgence lately.
From February 2023 to June 2024, the bot racked up a total expenditure of 76,916 ETH, amounting to around $175 million based on the prevailing values during those transactions.
MEV, short for “maximal extractable value,” involves tactics that exploit transactions in order to gain advantages. One such tactic is the sandwich attack, where the bot spots an upcoming user transaction and swiftly places its transaction with a higher gas fee just before the user’s, causing a shift in price.
MEV bots spend hefty sums on gas fees to ensure their trades are executed immediately, often including generous tips for validators. In essence, this bot is a big player in the Ethereum ecosystem, utilizing MEV strategies to capitalize on the lucrative world of on-chain memecoin trading.
