Mark Cubans Crypto Wallet Hacked For 870K Of Assets

Prominent entrepreneur Mark Cuban’s crypto wallet was hacked on Friday, with the attacker successfully draining approximately $870k of crypto assets.

The stolen assets include 175k in USDC, 4,337 ENS, 338 stETH and several other native crypto tokens of promising projects such as MATIC, Rarible, BitDAO and Audious.

Noted by a X user WazzCrypto, the wallet – tagged as ‘Mark Cuban 2’ on Etherscan –  was quite inactive for days transferred all assets in a series of transactions on 16 September.

“I went on MetaMask for the first time in months. They must have been watching,” Cuban confirmed to DL News. He assumed that it was just 5 ETH that was moved from the wallet. However, the total amount was over $870k.

“I’m pretty sure I downloaded a version of MetaMask with some shit in it,” he further said, as the downloaded MetaMask wallet was crashing.

The American billionaire has apparently fallen for a fake wallet scam, which is widely used by hackers to target crypto users. It is suggested to download or access crypto wallets and dApps only from the project’s official website and not by searching for them wildly on Google.

Cuban later managed to transfer the remaining assets to a Coinbase wallet, which provides advanced security. “Since I was only working with the account that got hacked, none of my others gave up anything,” he clarified.
