Company Behind the NBA Top Shot and the Flow Blockchain, Dapper Labs raised a $250 million funding round and also announced a partnership with LaLiga to create digital collectibles for their fans.
This funding round was led by Coatue including Andreessen Horowitz, Google’s GV (formerly Google Ventures), and Version One Ventures. According to some sources, Dapper Labs had received a $7.6 billion valuation.
“We’ve proved the concept, which is why our investors are so eager to partner with us,” Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs.
Gharegozlou is hoping that non-fungible tokens will become a “currency of fandom”. This raised fund will help in the expansion of the NBA Top Shot operations. Also, it will motivate new sports ventures throughout the world including European soccer.
“We think Dapper Labs is a leader in the space at the infrastructure level with Flow blockchain and in the application layer with NBA TopShot. A day ago, NFT-based fantasy soccer platform Sorare also raised $680 million with the help of Softbank.
Moreover, Dapper Labs announced a partnership with LaLiga, Spain’s top professional soccer league, to launch a soccer marketplace. It will become available on Dapper’s Flow blockchain starting in June 2022.
The marketplace will feature digital collectibles from league 20’s teams, including popular clubs such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla FC, and others. This tie-up will allow their fans to collect their favorite teams’ digital art or NFT.
Like NBA Top Shot, the new experience is built on the Flow blockchain, developed for consumer experiences at scale. Flow allows fans to trace and verify the authenticity and scarcity of their digital collectibles.
