Uniswap founder and CEO Hayden Adams said the tokenized securities venue planned by OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) would use a Uniswap v4 hook.
In an October 5 post on X, Adams said the collaboration between ICE Markets and OKX would launch “as a Uniswap v4 hook.” He described v4 hooks as a suitable market structure for tokenized securities venues.
Adams also said the arrangement could bring new assets and users to the Uniswap protocol. That reflects Adams’ view of the potential impact and is not a confirmed volume or user forecast.
OKX and ICE plan tokenized stock trading through Uniswap v4
The statement follows OKXICE’s public notice for its proposed Tokenized Securities Venue (TSV).
OKXICE, a joint venture between OKX and ICE, plans to offer blockchain-based versions of more than 63 U.S.-listed stocks through a permissioned on-chain trading system.
The proposed venue would operate on XLayer, with tokenized stocks traded through Uniswap v4 automated market maker liquidity pools rather than a conventional order book. The initial list includes companies such as Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, Coinbase, and Robinhood.
The OKXICE notice says the pools will use an “OKXICE TSV Hook” to enforce permissioning. Only wallets holding a valid, non-transferable soulbound token (SBT) issued by OKXICE would be allowed to trade or provide liquidity.
Each tokenized stock would be paired with one of three payment stablecoins: USDC, USDG, or USDT.
Companies on the proposed list have a period to object before trading begins. As of its October 4 notice, OKXICE said it had received an issuer objection from Cerebras Systems.
The proposal remains subject to the conditions of the SEC’s temporary exemption.
How the Uniswap v4 hook would work
Uniswap v4 hooks are smart-contract extensions that can customize how individual liquidity pools operate, including rules applied before or after swaps and to liquidity actions. In the OKXICE structure, the hook would enforce access restrictions for tokenized-stock pools.
According to the OKXICE notice, the hook verifies whether a wallet holds a valid SBT before each trade and liquidity action. OKXICE also says only it can create pools using the OKXICE TSV Hook.
This differs from a standard permissionless Uniswap pool. Participants in the proposed venue would first need to complete OKXICE’s eligibility and compliance process before accessing the pools.
The pools would use Uniswap v4’s constant-product automated market maker pricing formula. The OKXICE hook would enforce permissioning but would not change the pricing formula.
OKX-ICE’s tokenized stock plan
OKXICE’s proposed venue follows the SEC’s temporary exemption for certain distributed-ledger trading venues involving tokenized NMS stocks. The OKXICE notice states that the venue is not registered with the SEC for activities performed under the exemption. It also says the SEC has not passed upon the merits or accuracy of the disclosures in the notice.
Under OKXICE’s proposed structure, each tokenized stock is intended to represent a security entitlement to one underlying share. When a third-party tokenizer is used, the notice says the underlying stock would be held on a one-for-one basis against the tokens.
The notice also says holders would receive the same rights and privileges as holders of the equivalent underlying stock, including dividends and voting rights, subject to the proposed structure and applicable conditions.
The notice describes a planned structure rather than a completed launch.
ICE and OKX’s broader partnership
The tokenized-stock project follows the broader relationship between ICE and OKX. In March 2026, ICE took an equity stake in OKX as part of a strategic partnership between the companies. The companies later expanded their collaboration into traditional financial products. In May, the Crypto Times report covered an ICE-OKX partnership involving oil futures on crypto rails.
ICE, OKX, and Securitize had also previously raised concerns over unbacked tokenized equities, arguing that synthetic versions could create confusion and price differences from the underlying stocks.
The current OKXICE proposal describes a structure in which tokenized stocks can be backed one-for-one by underlying shares.
Why the Uniswap connection matters
The proposed venue would use an automated market maker rather than a conventional order-book system, putting Uniswap v4 infrastructure at the center of its planned trading model.
The venue is designed for 24/7 trading, although OKXICE warns that tokenized-stock prices could diverge from the underlying shares, particularly outside regular market hours or when liquidity is limited.
What comes next
OKXICE still needs to satisfy the conditions attached to the SEC exemption and complete the required issuer notification process before trading can begin. The October 4 notice also says OKXICE must comply with volume and symbol limits under the exemption. Trading may be halted when the underlying stock is halted or when other specified conditions are met.
The final list of companies and operating structure will determine how the Uniswap v4 hook is used if the venue proceeds. For now, Adams’ statement establishes Uniswap’s intended technical role in the OKX-ICE project, while trading has not yet begun.
