The company disclosed the Bitcoin purchase and stock-sale activity in a Form 8-K filed October 5. The filing showed Strategy bought 334 BTC between October 1 and October 4 for $28.7 million, including fees and expenses.
Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings reach 848,000 BTC
The latest purchase lifted Strategy’s holdings to 848,000 BTC as of October 4, up from 847,666 BTC at the end of September. The company has spent about $63.97 billion to acquire its Bitcoin holdings, including fees and expenses, for an average purchase price of $75,436.70 per BTC.
Of the latest $28.7 million purchase, $15.7 million came from net proceeds from sales of MSTR common stock, while the remaining $13 million was funded with U.S. dollar cash.
The latest addition extends Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation program after the company reported no Bitcoin purchases between September 28 and September 30.
Strategy added 1,665 BTC the prior week
Strategy purchased 1,665 BTC and repurchased about $152 million of its STRC preferred stock during the week ended September 27, 2026. The company said the Bitcoin purchase cost $142.7 million, including fees and expenses, or about $85,706 per BTC. As of September 27, Strategy held 847,666 BTC and $6.02 billion in USD assets.
The company’s Bitcoin holdings had an aggregate purchase price of $63.95 billion, with an average cost of about $75,437 per BTC. The 847,666 BTC represented roughly 4.04% of Bitcoin’s 21 million maximum supply and kept Strategy as the largest publicly disclosed corporate Bitcoin holder.
The purchase followed Strategy’s acquisition of 950 BTC disclosed the previous week, which brought its holdings to 846,000 BTC.
MSTR sales fund part of Bitcoin purchase
Strategy sold 92,894 shares of MSTR between October 1 and October 4, generating $15.7 million in net proceeds. The company had $18.83 billion of capacity remaining under its MSTR at-the-market offering program as of October 4.
Strategy did not repurchase any MSTR shares during the period. It did, however, repurchase 740,634 shares of its STRC preferred stock for $73.7 million between October 1 and October 4. The company said the STRC repurchases were funded with U.S. dollar cash.
Strategy reports $21 billion Q3 digital asset gain
The Bitcoin update accompanied Strategy’s preliminary third-quarter financial figures. The company estimated a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets for the three months ended September 30 and associated deferred tax expense of $1.88 billion. Strategy estimated the carrying value of its digital assets at $70.82 billion at the end of September. Its net deferred tax liability related to Bitcoin holdings and activity was estimated at $1.88 billion.
Because the fair value of its Bitcoin holdings exceeded their cost basis at September 30, Strategy said it reversed a $4.12 billion deferred tax asset related to its Bitcoin holdings and released the associated valuation allowance. The release resulted in an approximately $4.12 billion income-tax benefit, reducing estimated deferred tax expense from about $6 billion to $1.88 billion.
The figures are preliminary and were prepared by Strategy management. KPMG has not audited or reviewed the financial information, according to the filing.
The latest share move and Bitcoin purchase were reported on the same day, but the company’s filing does not attribute the stock’s intraday performance to the acquisition.
