Litecoin (LTC) gained ground on Thursday, September 24, even as Bitcoin (BTC) moved lower. Litecoin is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency launched in 2011 as a faster, lower-cost payments network. Its trading volume more than tripled from levels recorded on September 18, and the token pushed through a price zone where it had stalled a day earlier.
LTC traded at $67.45 at the time of writing, up 5.5% over 24 hours, according to data from CoinGecko. Over that period, the token moved between $59.11 and $69.14, a range of about 17%. Against Bitcoin, LTC rose 8.3% to 0.0008018 BTC.
Litecoin’s market capitalization stood at $5.236 billion, ranking it 24th among cryptocurrencies. Its fully diluted valuation (FDV) was also $5.236 billion. FDV is the market value an asset would have if its entire total supply were in circulation. The two figures match because nearly all issued LTC is already circulating.

Litecoin Price Action on September 24
The 24-hour chart shows LTC starting the window near $64 on September 23 and briefly holding around $64.50 before drifting lower through the afternoon. In the evening, the price fell sharply from about $63 to near $60, and the session low of $59.11 followed shortly after.
LTC recovered gradually overnight and reached about $62 by early morning on September 24. The main advance came in the morning hours. The token climbed above $66 in a short stretch, extended to the $69.14 high, and then eased to $67.45. At that level, LTC sat about 14.1% above the session low and 2.4% below the session high.
The move extends a rally that has been building through September. On September 18, Litecoin rose 4.3% to $56.00. The current price is about 20.4% above that level.
Trading Volume and Derivatives Activity
Trading volume is the clearest change in the session. LTC’s 24-hour turnover of $947.64 million compares with $303.465 million recorded on September 18, an increase of roughly 3.1 times.
The volume-to-market-cap ratio stood near 18.1%. This ratio compares a day’s trading turnover with an asset’s total market value. A higher reading means a larger share of that value changed hands during the period.
Derivatives positioning has also expanded. Open interest (OI) is the total value of futures contracts that remain open and unsettled. On September 18, Litecoin futures OI stood at 7.49 million LTC, valued at $420.89 million. By September 23, OI had risen above $500 million, according to CoinGlass. Higher open interest reflects more leveraged positioning in the market, which can amplify price moves in either direction.
On-Chain Activity Reaches $1 Billion
Network activity picked up before the price breakout. The Litecoin Foundation is the nonprofit organization that supports the development and adoption of Litecoin. In a September 23 post on X, it said about $1 billion in value, representing more than 17 million LTC, moved across the Litecoin network in 24 hours.
The Foundation described the figure as Adjusted Economic Volume, a metric intended to track the economic value of on-chain transfers. The 17 million LTC equals about 21.9% of the circulating supply. On-chain transfer volume does not by itself show buying or selling, because it can also include movements between exchange and custodial wallets.
LTC Gains Against Bitcoin as BTC Pulls Back
Litecoin’s advance came as Bitcoin retreated from its recent highs. Bitcoin climbed above $86,000 on September 21, its highest level since January. On the same day, U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded $999 million in net inflows, their largest single-day intake of 2026.
By September 24, Bitcoin traded at $84,355, down 2.63% over 24 hours, according to Coinbase price data. Litecoin’s 8.3% gain against Bitcoin therefore reflects relative strength in LTC, not a broad market rally.
Recent Litecoin Developments
On September 11, Grayscale Investments filed Amendment No. 1 to its Form S-3 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The filing seeks to rename the Grayscale Litecoin Trust as the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF and list its shares on NYSE Arca under the ticker LTCN.
The conversion still depends on a 19b-4 application, the rule change filing an exchange submits to the SEC before listing a new product. NYSE Arca filed that application on January 24, 2025, and it remains pending. The trust reported net assets of $82.3 million as of June 30, 2026. The Crypto Times reported on the details of the Grayscale Litecoin Trust amendment.
On September 14, crypto wealth management platform SwissBorg announced on X that it had added support for Litecoin and Zcash (ZEC). Users can swap both assets against 12 fiat currencies or more than 400 other digital assets in a single transaction. The Crypto Times covered how SwissBorg added Litecoin and Zcash support.
Supply and Treasury Data
Litecoin has a circulating supply of 77.641 million LTC and a total supply of 77.644 million, against a hard cap of 84 million. About 92.4% of the maximum supply is already in circulation.
CoinGecko’s Litecoin page lists total treasury holdings of 982,620 LTC, equal to about 1.27% of the circulating supply. Treasury holdings refer to LTC held on the balance sheets of companies and institutions. Trackers compile these figures from public disclosures, so totals can differ depending on the filing date each source uses.
Key Levels on the Chart
The session high of $69.14 is the nearest level above the current price. The $64 to $65 area, where LTC stalled on September 23, now sits below the market. The session low of $59.11 marks the bottom of the 24-hour range.
Despite the September advance, LTC remains about 83.6% below its all-time high of $410.26, recorded on May 9, 2021.
