Hunter Biden’s $LAPTOP meme coin is scheduled to begin trading on September 9, 2026, on Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by Coinbase.
Biden announced the ticker and launch date on X on September 7, while the project’s official website now identifies $LAPTOP as an ERC-20 token on Base. The project’s official website lists the token’s ticker as $LAPTOP, a fixed total supply of 1 billion tokens, and the official Base contract address as 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29. The site says exchange listings will be announced at launch. The Crypto Times previously reported on Biden’s plan to launch the token.
The more consequential details are in the project’s MiCA whitepaper. It classifies $LAPTOP as an “Other Crypto-Asset” under MiCA and describes it as an ERC-20 meme token that functions primarily as a digital collectible, without inherent rights, utility or governance rights.

The project’s website says the full supply is scheduled to become unlocked over 36 months from token generation. Founder allocations are subject to a six-month lock-up followed by 24 months of linear vesting, while the predictions allocation has a 12-month lock-up followed by 24 months of vesting.
The whitepaper says $LAPTOP is not being sold to the public as a fundraising exercise. Instead, the project describes the September 9 event as an admission to trading and says it is seeking admission on Coinbase, Bybit Europe, Uphold, Bitpanda, Bitvavo, and Kraken. Those are proposed venues, not confirmed listings.
The Biden-Trump Connection
The token’s structure explicitly incorporates comparisons with Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin. The official LAPTOP website says 30% of the supply is tied to real-world prediction outcomes. When specified outcomes occur, the associated tokens are burned and permanently removed from supply. When the outcomes do not occur, the tokens are donated to charity.
The listed outcomes include whether a Democrat wins the 2028 presidential election, whether Bitcoin reaches a new all-time high and whether $LAPTOP’s fully diluted valuation exceeds that of $TRUMP. The project also allocates 20% of the total supply to airdrops, including a portion for wallets that lost money on $TRUMP and another portion for Hunter Biden’s Substack subscribers and other eligible users.
The strategy directly references the performance of Trump’s token. The Crypto Times previously reported that the $TRUMP token generated substantial losses for many wallets after its launch in January 2025.
Nansen’s analysis, cited by New York Times, found that 988,905 wallets had recorded losses totaling about $3.81 billion on $TRUMP through the end of June 2026. CoinGecko records $TRUMP’s all-time high at $73.43 on January 19, 2025.
In August, Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal asked the SEC to investigate whether Trump’s memecoin involved fraud or improper benefits, citing investor losses. The request was a call for regulatory investigation rather than an SEC finding of wrongdoing.
Copycats Appear Before the Launch
The scheduled launch has already generated trading activity in unrelated tokens using the LAPTOP name.
A LAPTOP copycat token appeared on Robinhood Chain at approximately 14:50 UTC on September 7, after news of Biden’s planned launch began circulating. Within the following hour, at least 14 different LAPTOP-branded tokens appeared across Robinhood Chain, Solana, TON, and BNB Chain. By approximately 15:45 UTC on September 7, those tokens had generated a combined $6.9 million in trading volume, according to DEX Screener data.
Those tokens were not the official $LAPTOP project. The official project identifies its token as an ERC-20 contract on Base at 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29.
A separate Solana token called “Hunter Biden’s Laptop,” deployed in 2024, also rose sharply following the announcement. It is not affiliated with Hunter Biden or the planned Base launch. As of about 05:48 UTC on September 8, major trackers showed the token up roughly 200% over the prior 24 hours.
The activity highlights a basic distinction for the launch: the $LAPTOP ticker alone does not identify the official token. The network and contract address are also relevant.
The Project’s Own Risk Warnings
The project’s disclosures are explicit about the risks. The MiCA whitepaper says $LAPTOP gives holders no inherent rights, utility or obligations beyond the standard ability to hold, store and transfer the ERC-20 token. It does not represent ownership, profit rights or legal claims.
The project’s terms also state that it makes no promise regarding the token’s future value, price, liquidity or availability of a trading market and that its value could decline rapidly or permanently, including to zero.
The whitepaper identifies meme-token, liquidity, regulatory, cybersecurity, smart-contract, and market risks. It also states that the token has no inherent utility or value and no committed development roadmap.
The smart contract was audited by Hacken, according to the whitepaper. The audit identified four findings, one low-severity and three informational, all of which the project says were fixed before the final report was issued on April 23, 2026. The audit covered the LayerZero-based Omnichain Fungible Token implementation used for cross-chain transfers through a burn-and-mint mechanism.
The Caveats
The September 9 start date for admission to trading is stated in the official whitepaper, but the document does not provide a specific launch hour.
The exchanges named by the project, including Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit Europe, Bitpanda, Bitvavo, and Uphold, are venues where admission to trading is being sought, not confirmed listings. The whitepaper also states that it has not been approved by a competent authority and should not be treated as a prospectus or other approved financial-offering document.
For readers, the key distinction is between the project’s own disclosures and independently reported market activity. The token’s supply, allocations, contract address, proposed listings and risk disclosures come from the project, while copycat-token activity and historical $TRUMP losses are based on blockchain analytics and external reporting.
The Crypto Times is reporting on the launch, its structure and the activity surrounding it. Nothing in this report constitutes a recommendation to buy or sell $LAPTOP or any other digital asset.
