Ravencoin project officials disclosed a critical consensus vulnerability on the mainnet, affecting node validation
Majority pools 2Miners and RavenMiner declined a shallower recovery point, potentially leading to a deep chain reorganization
Exchanges like Bitvavo and Upbit suspended RVN transfers due to the vulnerability, flagging the asset for caution

RVN traded at $0.002917 at 08:18 UTC on August 11, down 18.17% in 24 hours, after the project said a consensus vulnerability was exploited on its mainnet.

Ravencoin published a network notice on August 10 stating that a critical consensus vulnerability has been demonstrated and exploited on its mainnet, causing invalid blocks to be accepted by vulnerable nodes.

Ravencoin Network Notice

A critical consensus vulnerability has been demonstrated and exploited on the Ravencoin network.

The issue caused invalid blocks to be accepted by vulnerable nodes. The first known invalid block appeared at height 4,487,776 on 2026-08-07 15:44:01 UTC.…

First Invalid Block Recorded at Height 4,487,776

The first known invalid block appeared at height 4,487,776 at 15:44:01 UTC on August 7, confirmed by the Ravencoin project in a notice posted from its official X account at 17:09 UTC on August 10. After the vulnerability was demonstrated on the mainnet, similar invalid blocks appeared to have been produced by others as well, according to the notice.

The notice does not describe the nature of the vulnerability or name the party that demonstrated it. A reply in the thread asks whether the issue stems from a previous code fix or affects other chains using the same mining algorithm. The project account had not answered that question as of publication.

Majority Pools Declined a Shallower Recovery Point

2Miners and RavenMiner currently control a majority of the network hash rate and have announced they are mining a chain that excludes the exploited branch from height 4,487,776 onward, according to the notice. If that chain becomes the dominant chain, the notice says, this may result in a deep chain reorganization of approximately three days.

The pools were asked to consider a more recent recovery point to reduce the impact on users, services, and exchanges, and the request was declined, the notice states. Neither 2Miners nor RavenMiner has published a public statement on the decision.

Bitvavo and Upbit Suspend RVN Transfers

Bitvavo paused RVN withdrawals and deposits, stating on its status page that it acted as a precautionary measure because a critical consensus vulnerability has been exploited on the Ravencoin mainnet and that it is monitoring the situation.

Upbit designated RVN as a caution-flagged asset across its KRW, BTC, and USDT pairs and suspended deposit services, according to a notice posted to the exchange’s X account. Upbit listed the RVN/KRW pair in June 2025, a listing The Crypto Times covered at the time.

The notice recommends that exchanges temporarily suspend RVN deposits and withdrawals until the network situation is resolved and the chain state is stable.

Transactions After Block 4,487,775 Marked at Risk

Transactions confirmed after block 4,487,775 should be treated as at risk, according to the notice. Some affected transactions may return to the mempool and be mined again, but this is not guaranteed.

Exchanges should not assume reversed deposits or withdrawals will automatically reappear or be confirmed again, the notice states, and users should avoid relying on recent confirmations until the network has stabilized.

The notice closes by stating that it is shared for transparency and risk awareness and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any rollback, chain selection, or recovery plan.

Trading Volume Up 1,118% in 24 Hours

RVN traded at $0.002917 at 08:18 UTC on August 11, down 18.17% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. Market capitalization stood at $47.84 million, down 18.08%, with 24-hour trading volume up 1,118.73% over the same period at $16.36 million.

Circulating supply is 16.39 billion RVN against a maximum supply of 21 billion. CoinMarketCap ranked RVN 346th by market capitalization at the time of the reading.

Three Days Between First Invalid Block and Notice

The first invalid block carries a timestamp of 15:44:01 UTC on August 7. The notice was posted at 17:09 UTC on August 10.

Ravencoin is a proof-of-work chain that launched in January 2018 as a fork of the Bitcoin codebase, with a one-minute target block time, a block reward of 5,000 RVN, and a maximum supply of 21 billion. It uses the KAWPOW mining algorithm, adopted in 2020 to replace X16R.
