OSL Expands XRP Access to Hong Kong Retail Crypto Traders

Key Highlights

  • OSL has become the first SFC-licensed exchange in Hong Kong to offer XRP trading to retail investors.
  • Retail users can now trade XRP through Flash Trade (XRP/USD) and OTC pairs in XRP/USD and XRP/HKD.
  • XRP joins Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana among the few cryptocurrencies available to retail traders on OSL HK.

OSL Digital Securities has expanded XRP trading to eligible retail investors in Hong Kong, becoming the first Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)-licensed exchange to make the token available to retail users under the city’s regulated virtual asset framework.

The exchange announced on July 29 that eligible retail users can now buy and sell XRP directly through OSL HK, removing a restriction that had limited the token to professional investors since it was first listed on the platform in December 2025.

The move marks another milestone in Hong Kong’s regulated crypto market, where licensed exchanges have gradually expanded the number of digital assets available to retail participants under the city’s virtual asset framework.

Retail investors gain direct access to XRP

Under the new listing, retail investors can access XRP through two trading channels:

  • Flash Trade: XRP/USD
  • OTC Trading: XRP/USD and XRP/HKD

Professional investors will continue to have access to additional markets, including XRP/USDT through Flash Trade and XRP/BTC via OTC trading.

OSL also confirmed that XRP deposits and withdrawals are supported through the XRP Ledger, allowing users to transfer the asset directly over its native blockchain. Before the latest update, XRP was only available to professional investors on the platform.

XRP joins OSL’s regulated retail offering

The addition makes XRP one of only a handful of cryptocurrencies approved for retail trading on OSL HK, alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The listing reflects Hong Kong’s gradual approach to expanding retail access under its regulated virtual asset regime rather than rapidly approving a broad range of tokens.

OSL, which became Hong Kong’s first SFC-licensed digital asset platform in 2020 before receiving approval to serve retail investors in 2023, has steadily expanded its product offering as the city’s crypto regulatory framework has matured.

For Hong Kong investors, the listing provides a regulated avenue to access XRP without relying on offshore exchanges.

XRP holds amid broader market weakness

At the time of the announcement, XRP was trading at $1.0676, down 0.02% over the past 24 hours, indicating a largely flat trading session. The token climbed steadily through the morning and briefly approached the $1.09 level in the afternoon before reversing course. Selling pressure intensified later in the day, pushing XRP back toward the $1.06–$1.07 range.

Despite the muted daily move, the broader trend remains mixed. XRP is up 2.01% over the past month, but it remains down 10.85% over six months, 41.97% year-to-date, and 56.83% over the past year, reflecting the impact of the broader crypto market downturn.

OSL expands global crypto footprint

The timing of OSL’s retail expansion also comes as markets await several potential catalysts, including upcoming U.S. monetary policy decisions and continued debate over crypto legislation in Washington, both of which could influence sentiment across digital asset markets.

For Hong Kong, the latest listing marks another step in the city’s efforts to establish itself as a regulated digital asset hub by gradually broadening investor access to major cryptocurrencies through licensed trading platforms.
