Sold for Just $1,000 in Crypto IDF Reservist Leaks Iron Dome Secrets

Key Highlights

  • Raz Cohen, a 26-year-old IDF reservist, has been indicted for passing highly classified Iron Dome schematics and military site locations to Iranian intelligence.
  • Authorities reveal Cohen received approximately $1,000 in cryptocurrency in exchange for the sensitive defense data.
  • Israeli authorities are issuing stark warnings to the public, reminding citizens that aiding an enemy during wartime carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Amidst the ongoing Iran-Israel, a shocking security breach has come to light. Israeli authorities have raised serious concerns after a 26-year-old Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reservist allegedly shared top-secret Iron Dome information with Iranian agents. Raz Cohen, from Jerusalem, is accused of passing on how the missile defense system works, details of military sites, and names of Israeli security officials.

According to the Jerusalem District Court indictment, as reported by The Times of Israel, he exchanged the information for just $1,000 in cryptocurrency. Israel Police and Shin Bet officials are warning the public not to cooperate with foreign agents, stressing the severe risk such leaks pose to national security.

Cohen has been charged with helping the enemy during wartime, sharing information that could harm national security, and passing intelligence that might aid an enemy. Officials say these alleged actions happened months before the current conflict.

“The Israel Police and the Shin Bet once again warn citizens and residents of the State of Israel against having contact with foreign agents from enemy countries, or unknown officials,” the statement said. Punishments can include life in prison, while the death penalty is rarely applied.

Growing espionage concerns among IDF reservists

Cohen’s indictment is not an isolated incident. In early 2025, two other Israeli reservists, Yuri Elisfov and Georgi Andrayev, also faced similar charges of spying and providing intelligence to Iran. It is alleged that Yuri Elisfov took photographs of Iranian radar screens using his camera and then gave them to Iranian intelligence agents.

The duo also wrote graffiti with political messages, photographed them, and then gave them to Iranian intelligence agents.

The repetitive breaches highlight weaknesses in units handling sensitive defense technology. Beyond money, investigators say social media and messaging apps may have made these leaks easier. As a result, Israel is increasing monitoring and counter-intelligence efforts. Experts warn that even small leaks can have serious consequences, especially with ongoing tensions involving Iran and its allies.

Implications for Israel’s national defense

The Iron Dome is a key part of Israel’s missile defense and has intercepted thousands of rockets over the years. Insider access to its operational details could seriously weaken its effectiveness.

“These officials, including intelligence and terrorist agents from enemy countries, continue their efforts to recruit and use Israelis for security, espionage and terrorist missions,” the police said. Authorities are investigating the case closely to stop further leaks and protect the system’s security.
