Cost basis update

According to a Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the recent batch of 13,627 BTC was bought at an average price of about $91,519 per coin, including fees and expenses.

To finance this trade, Strategy sold over 6.8 million shares of its Class A common stock and about 1.19 million shares of its Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock. The total net proceeds from these equity sales reached $1,247.6 million, nearly all of which was quickly put into the crypto market.

The total purchase price for the company’s Bitcoin holdings now stands at about $51.80 billion, which shows an average cost basis of $75,353 per bitcoin. This means that Strategy now controls over 3% of the total circulating supply of bitcoin, maintaining its position as the largest corporate bitcoin treasury.

Current market data

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $90,564.63, down 0.36% over the past 24 hours. The market capitalization stands at $1.8 trillion and a high 24-hour trading volume of $32.89 billion, up by 160.27%. The circulating supply remains at 19.97 million BTC, nearing the maximum limit of 21 million.

Strategy’s accumulation history

The company’s accumulation strategy started years ago as it aimed to treat Bitcoin as a reliable store of value against inflation and currency devaluation. By regularly accessing capital markets to issue both common and preferred stock,

Strategy has created a cycle where equity is turned into digital gold. While this approach has faced volatility in the past, the current average purchase price is still well below recent market highs, indicating a large unrealized gain on the corporate balance sheet.

Strategy’s recent acquisitions

In December 2025, Strategy increased its holdings to 672,497 BTC after acquiring 1,229 bitcoin for $108.8 million. The company maintained this momentum into the first week of January, purchasing an additional 1,287 BTC to reach 673,783 tokens.

Alongside these accumulations, the firm expanded its cash reserves to $2.25 billion to manage interest payments and corporate dividends. The company shows no signs of slowing down its acquisition pace.

The recent SEC filing indicates that Strategy still has billions available for issuance under its current programs. Specifically, over $10.2 billion remains available for Class A common stock sales, while several billion more are authorized across different series of perpetual preferred stock. This shows that the firm will continue its buying spree despite short-term price fluctuations in the crypto market.
