Bitcoin Billionaires Winklevoss Twins Bet Big on Reviving Woolly Mammoths

In Brief:

  • Winklevoss Capital and other investment firm had provided $15 million funds for de-extinction startup, ‘Colossal’.
  • George church will inject DNA into modern Asian or African to clone them into Woolly Mammoth.
  • Revival of Woolly Mammoth can prove a boon for Climate change.

Bitcoin billionaires Winklevoss twins of Winklevoss Capital and Tim Draper of Draper Associates contributed in a $15 million funding round for a startup “Colossal” to revive the extinct woolly mammoth.

Harvard Genetic professor George Church and his partner, Ben Lamm, introduced the startup ‘Colossal’ for the most fascinating and futuristic project called ‘De-extinction’ on 13th September.

Excited about @winklevosscap's investment in @ItIsColossal and its de-extinction mission that will undoubtedly change the course of history and build a better future. @federallamm and @geochurch are solving for the future by bringing back the past. 🚀🦕https://t.co/n9gEuNbGI5

— Cameron Winklevoss (@cameron) September 13, 2021

This startup is initiated through $15 million funds from a funding round led by Thomas Tull, founder of Legendary Pictures. Bitcoin billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss of Winklevoss Capital, Tim Draper of Draper Associates, Peter Diamandis of Bold Capital, and Jim Breyer of Breyer Capital joined the round.

The de-extinction project is about the revival of Woolly mammoths, who became extinct four thousand years ago. According to George Church, the aim behind this project is to reverse down climate change and to balance the carbon amount on our planet.

George Church will inject the genetic DNA of Woolly Mammoths into Asian or African elephants and will change their genetic code. This all will be done by cutting and pasting the DNA process.

The firm’s website outlines 10 core reasons for reviving the mammoth, such as decelerating the melting of the arctic permafrost and preventing the emission of greenhouse gasses trapped in the permafrost layer. It will save modern elephants from extinction and foster an “ecosystem that can maintain its own defenses against climate change.”

Why invest in Colossal?

Cameron Winklevoss is a famous bitcoin investor and entrepreneur, who is attracted to this ‘Jurassic park’ theme park for the extinct animal’s project. According to him, the approach of the Colossal is worth giving a shot-calling it a “moonshot”.

Cameron Winklevoss said that this project can be a big achievement in human history as this project will give the idea about genomes of different species that are in danger of extinction. We can preserve their genomes for the future by reviving them in case of any natural occurrence.

Winklevoss Capital is an investment firm, which invests in multiple assets and provides infrastructure and funds to early-stage startups.
