OpenSea Delists the NFT Version of Rihanna’s Hit Song BBHMM

The global musician and billionaire businesswoman Rihanna opened the spectacular performance at the Super Bowl 2023 halftime show with her hit song “B*TCH Better Have My Money.” But just a day before the show, OpenSea delisted the BBHMM NFT collection offered by Deputy, the song’s co-producer for unknown reasons.

The limited edition 300 Rihanna NFTs, each costing 0.145 ETH ($210), all sold out upon launch, netting total sales worth $63,000. The NFT holders receive access to 0.0033% of the streaming royalties for the Rihanna song.

At the time of writing, the collection’s floor price on AnotherBlock’s platform is 0.42 ETH ($709).

The NFTs could no longer be traded on OpenSea, AnotherBlock CEO Michel D Traore announced on the project’s Discord server the day before the Super Bowl.

we hit number 3 on highest volume when @opensea halted trades for our RIHANNA drop by @deputy718

we have contacted @opensea showing we have all the legal documentation, but they aren’t responding.

until then trades will continue on our own marketplace: https://t.co/Ym1JKNUmwl https://t.co/kSQKWX3qgO

The AnotherBlock team claimed that without informing them, OpenSea’s automatic system “flagged” the project’s description and delisted it.

The collection’s sales were suspended on OpenSea, according to Andreas Bigert, Head of Community & Growth at AnotherBlock, because OpenSea forbids NFTs that “appear to be promising fractional ownership and future profit based on that ownership.”

Bigert noted, “We have also brought up why similar collections (Royal.io and Corite for instance) are still tradable on their platform in our communication without getting any comment on that either.”

Bigert alleged that AnotherBlock’s efforts to fix the problem have been “ignored” by OpenSea. Members of AnotherBlock’s Discord server were informed that the Rihanna NFTs may still be traded on Blur and AnotherBlock’s own marketplace.

A few of the AnotherBlock community members criticized OpenSea for its monopoly nature. They called out OpenSea for giving no reason for delisting the NFTs, saying that decentralized platforms are needed now more than ever.
