The Solana Foundation launched Solana DvP, an open-source delivery-versus-payment settlement program designed to help financial institutions settle tokenized assets and payments atomically on the Solana blockchain.
According to the official announcement, the program provides an open-source API for delivery-versus-payment settlement, with isolated escrow and enforced deadlines. J.P. Morgan provided input on institutional settlement practices and requirements, but the bank’s involvement was limited to that input and should not be interpreted as an endorsement, approval or guarantee of the program.
The foundation said the DvP system is designed to replace the bespoke smart contracts used for individual institutional onchain settlements with a reusable open standard.
Open Standard for Institutional Settlement
Solana DvP is released under the MIT license and is designed as a reusable settlement standard rather than a separate smart contract for individual institutional trades.
The program uses isolated escrow and settlement deadlines. If both sides of a transaction satisfy the required conditions, the assets and payment settle together; otherwise, the transaction does not complete.
The foundation said the system could reduce settlement times from the multi-day process used in traditional markets to transactions that reach finality in seconds on Solana.
Solana Foundation Head of Product, Digital Assets Catherine Gu said, “Solana DvP provides institutions with one open standard across the Solana ecosystem, on public infrastructure, with finality in seconds instead of days.”
J.P. Morgan Head of Markets Digital Assets Rhodel D’souza said the bank contributed its settlement expertise to the project. “A shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment is the kind of infrastructure institutional market participants need to operate at scale without settlement risk and counterparty exposure,” D’souza said.
J.P. Morgan’s role should be understood as advisory input on securities settlement practices rather than participation in the development, operation or approval of Solana DvP. The Solana Foundation’s announcement explicitly states that the bank did not design, develop, operate, approve, certify, warrant, endorse, or guarantee the program.
Support for Tokenized Assets
Solana DvP supports both SPL Token and Token-2022 assets, including extensions such as permanent delegates, pausable tokens, and transfer hooks that regulated issuers can use. The framework can be used by counterparties working with different settlement agents, including banks, custodians, and exchanges, according to the foundation.
The foundation said Solana DvP has undergone external security audits and is ready for use with real funds. It also plans to add privacy features that would allow settlement transactions to be conducted confidentially.
Push Into Institutional Markets
Delivery-versus-payment is a core mechanism in securities markets because it links the transfer of an asset with the corresponding payment, helping reduce principal risk.
The launch follows several recent developments involving Solana and institutional financial infrastructure. In August, Shinhan Asset Management partnered with the Solana Foundation to test a Korean won-denominated tokenized fund for overseas institutional investors.
In September, Tetra Digital also deployed its Canadian-dollar stablecoin CADD on Solana for potential payments, treasury operations and settlement.
Traditional securities transactions often involve multiple intermediaries, including clearinghouses, depositories and custodians. Solana Foundation is positioning its DvP program as blockchain-based infrastructure that can combine the two settlement legs into a single atomic transaction.
The launch comes as financial institutions and blockchain networks increasingly explore tokenized securities and other real-world assets. Solana has also been seeking a larger role in institutional tokenization and settlement infrastructure.
The Solana Foundation said it is seeking design partners and early participants ahead of the production release of Solana DvP.
