Strategy Inc. (MSTR) shares rose 8% to $166.24 in morning trading on Monday, after the company disclosed that it purchased 950 Bitcoin (BTC) during the week of September 14–20, 2026.
According to data from Yahoo Finance (on September 21 at 15:35 UTC), the stock gained $12.32 from the previous close of $153.92. The day’s range reached a high of $169.50 and a low of $164.55, with trading volume at approximately 24.3 million shares.

Intraday market capitalization reached approximately $65.85 billion. The 52-week range stands at $81.81 to $365.21.
Details of the Bitcoin purchase
According to a Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 21, Strategy acquired 950 Bitcoin for an aggregate of $75.7 million.
The average purchase price was $79,670 per Bitcoin, inclusive of fees and expenses. The purchases were funded entirely from existing USD cash. No shares were sold under the company’s at-the-market equity program during the same period.
After the transactions, Strategy reported total Bitcoin holdings of 846,000 BTC. The company said the holdings were acquired for a total cost of $63.80 billion, representing an average cost of $75,416 per Bitcoin. As of September 20, the company also reported $6.09 billion in USD assets.
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor announced the update on the same day, confirming the new total of 846,000 BTC.
In the same period, Strategy repurchased $174 million of its variable-rate STRC preferred stock. This activity continued the company’s Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program.
Strategy’s preferred stock repurchase
Previously, on September 14, 2026, Strategy reported that it had repurchased $139 million of STRC preferred stock. At that time, the company stated it held 845,050 Bitcoin and $6.4 billion in USD assets as of September 13. The Bitcoin holdings remained unchanged in that earlier update.
The September 14 filing also noted that the board had previously doubled the repurchase program authorization to $2 billion. Earlier in September, the company spent $176.3 million buying 1.81 million STRC shares in the week ended September 7.
