Key Highlights
- Chainlink is bringing official U.S. economic data onchain across 10 blockchains.
- The feeds cover GDP, the PCE Price Index, and private spending data, with six feeds in total.
- Developers can use the government data in blockchain applications without manually adding each new BEA release.
The U.S. Department of Commerce is bringing official economic data onto public blockchains through Chainlink, giving blockchain applications access to figures from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).
In a Tuesday post on X, Chainlink said the program covers 10 networks and is designed to make government data available onchain as new economic figures are released.
Three key economic measures to be covered
The data reportedly covers three important measures of the U.S. economy: real gross domestic product (GDP), the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers. Each measure has two feeds, bringing the total to six data feeds.
Real GDP shows how much the U.S. economy produces after taking changes in prices into account. One Chainlink feed shows the current GDP level, while the other shows how much it changed from the previous quarter on an annualized basis.
The PCE Price Index tracks changes in the prices people pay for goods and services. It is closely watched because the Federal Reserve uses PCE as its preferred measure when looking at inflation and its 2% target.
How the GDP and inflation feeds work
Chainlink’s PCE feeds also come in two forms. One gives the current index level, with 2017 used as the base year, while the other shows the quarter-over-quarter change at an annualized rate.
The third measure, Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers, looks at spending by private businesses and consumers. Together, the three measures give blockchain applications access to data covering economic growth, prices and private spending.
The feeds are initially available on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic and ZKsync. Chainlink said other networks can be added if users demand them.
Developers can access fresh government data
The timing of the updates will follow the BEA’s normal release schedule. Some figures will be updated monthly, while others will be updated quarterly. This allows blockchain users to receive the figures when the government publishes new data through its regular channels.
The main change is how developers can use the information. Chainlink operates an oracle network, which helps blockchains receive information from outside their own networks. With the new feeds, developers do not have to manually take each BEA release and put the figures onchain.
This could allow applications to react to fresh economic data as soon as the feeds are updated. For example, blockchain-based products could use inflation figures, GDP data or spending numbers in prediction markets, trading applications, inflation-linked assets and other financial products.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said, “We are making America’s economic truth immutable and globally accessible like never before, cementing our role as the blockchain capital of the world.”
Commerce has used blockchain for economic data before
The development is not the first time the Commerce Department has worked to put U.S. economic data on public blockchains. The program was first announced in August 2025, when the department worked with both Chainlink and Pyth Network to bring selected BEA data onchain.
The Commerce Department has also used other blockchain networks as part of the wider effort. A separate initiative placed second-quarter 2025 GDP data on networks including Bitcoin and Solana. Chainlink was not involved in that part of the program.
Chainlink’s role also goes beyond government economic data. The company provides data infrastructure for Coinbase Tokenized Stocks on Base, with its price feeds supporting tokenized shares such as NVDAc, AAPLc, METAc and GOOGLc in decentralized finance applications, including lending and borrowing products.
The company said its data feed infrastructure carries ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 1 certifications. With the latest rollout, official U.S. economic figures are now being made available alongside the other outside information that Chainlink feeds into blockchain networks.
