The chart of the session showed the stock moving higher from the open through the morning hours, with a marked advance after the broader sector response to peer results.
There was no confirmed company announcement that directly triggered Wednesday’s move. The rally came as AI infrastructure stocks gained following CoreWeave’s second-quarter results and raised full-year guidance.
IREN shares remain volatile
On the same trading day, August 12, IREN gained 7.18% over the five trading days and 8.63% over the past month. The shares traded near $40 in mid-July before falling to about $29 later that month. They then recovered through early August, reaching the current level.
The stock is up 12.11% year to date. It traded above $60 in March and May before several pullbacks, including a decline toward $30 in July.
Analyst maintains $100 price target
Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani maintained a Buy rating and a $100 price target on IREN in a note dated July 30, 2026.
The target had been in place since May 2026 following earlier commercial agreements involving NVIDIA. The rating and target form part of a broader set of views from approximately 10 analysts covering the stock, according to Google Finance.
The $100 target remains an analyst estimate and does not represent a company forecast.
Bitcoin miner fee share hits decade low
The move in IREN shares came a day after Glassnode data showed Bitcoin transaction fees accounted for just 0.7% of miner revenue on Aug. 11, the lowest share since 2016.
A Glassnode analyst noted that Bitcoin last traded below $400 when the fee contribution was similarly low. Miners now rely almost entirely on the fixed block subsidy.
The low fee contribution means miners are relying almost entirely on the fixed block subsidy for revenue from securing the Bitcoin network.
For mining companies, weak transaction-fee revenue adds to the pressure to manage costs and diversify revenue sources, particularly as the block subsidy remains fixed between halvings.
IREN shifts more capacity toward AI
IREN, originally Iris Energy and renamed in late 2024, continues to operate Bitcoin mining operations while expanding into AI cloud infrastructure.
The company has increasingly directed capacity toward AI-related computing, positioning its power, land, and data-center infrastructure for both mining and high-performance computing workloads. Its disclosed customers include Microsoft, NVIDIA, Perplexity, Figure AI, and Together AI.
The shift gives IREN exposure to two different parts of the data center market: Bitcoin mining, where revenue depends on cryptocurrency prices, network difficulty, and mining economics; and AI infrastructure, where demand is tied to computing capacity and customer contracts.
For now, Wednesday’s share-price move occurred without a new company-specific announcement, while the broader AI infrastructure sector was gaining attention following CoreWeave’s results.
