Harmony Faces Suspected 4B ONE Mint as Team Explores Network Rollback
AI Summary
Show
Harmony protocol responded to an exploitation claim on August 12, within hours of the issue being posted, and began working on a patch and rollback option
The project took action in sequence, first posting a statement at 04:26 UTC, then publishing four wallet addresses to block at 05:25 UTC, to stop and freeze unauthorized funds
Events unfolded rapidly, with the initial claim posted at 01:42 UTC, a price decline beginning around 01:00 UTC, and Harmony’s response and actions following in the subsequent hours

Harmony protocol posted on August 12 that it is working on a patch and rollback options, responding directly to a researcher who posted that roughly 4 billion ONE was minted without authorization.

Harmony said on August 12 that it is working with its team and appropriate exchanges to stop and freeze funds, following a claim that unauthorized tokens were minted on its network.

We are working with our team and appropriate exchanges to stop and freeze the funds.

We are working on a patch and rollback options.

Will update when we have new information. https://t.co/XB0nCwTAyN

— Harmony 💙 (@harmonyprotocol) August 12, 2026

Project States Patch and Rollback Options Under Consideration

The statement was posted from the @harmonyprotocol account at 04:26 UTC on August 12 as a quote-post of a claim made by the account Juiceberg. Harmony wrote that it is working with its team and appropriate exchanges to stop and freeze the funds, that it is working on a patch and rollback option, and that it will update when it has new information.

The post does not confirm any figure, does not state when the incident began, and does not name any exchange. Harmony has published no further statement as of publication.

A rollback would reverse transactions recorded on the network after a chosen point. Harmony’s post describes rollback as an option under consideration and does not state that one will occur, nor identify a point from which one would run.

Harmony Publishes Four Wallet Addresses

Harmony published four wallet addresses at 05:25 UTC on August 12 and asked all exchanges to block and freeze funds that trace back to them. The post quoted the project’s earlier statement and added no further detail.

The addresses were listed in both Harmony’s native format and hexadecimal as follows.

Harmony did not state how much value the addresses hold, when funds moved through them, or which exchanges had been contacted.

Researcher Puts Unverified Figure at 4 Billion ONE

The claim Harmony responded to was posted at 01:42 UTC on August 12. It states that Harmony was exploited, that on-chain data shows an unauthorized mint of 4 billion ONE representing 26% of supply, that 2.8 billion tokens were moved to exchanges as the price fell, and that the network’s totalSupply endpoint does not reflect the additional tokens.

The attacker has roughly 115M ONE left to sell onchain — about 2.9% of the ~4B they minted. The
overwhelming majority (~97%) is already on exchanges and has either been sold or is sitting in deposit wallets ready to sell

— Juiceberg (@the_juice_berg) August 12, 2026

In a follow-up posted approximately three hours later, the same account stated that the attacker has roughly 115 million ONE left to sell on-chain, about 2.9% of the total minted, and that the remainder is already on exchanges and has either been sold or is sitting in deposit wallets. The stated percentage implies a supply denominator of approximately 15 billion ONE.

ONE Down 38% With Volume Up 3,757%

Harmony protocol token, ONE, traded at $0.0007605 at 6:07 AM UTC on August 12, down 38.33% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. Market capitalization stood at $11.41 million, down 38.33% over the same period, with 24-hour trading volume up 3,757.35%.

CoinMarketCap listed total supply and circulating supply at 15.01 billion ONE, with no maximum supply. The researcher’s stated figure of 4 billion tokens represents 26.6% of that total.

OKX ONE/USDT five-minute data shows the decline beginning shortly after 01:00 UTC, approximately 30 minutes before the claim was posted at 01:42 UTC.

Exchange Response Not Yet Confirmed

Harmony’s post states that it is working with appropriate exchanges. No exchange had published a notice on ONE deposits or withdrawals as of publication. The Crypto Times has reviewed the status pages of major venues listing ONE.

Harmony is a proof-of-stake blockchain that launched its mainnet in June 2019. Its native token, ONE, is used for transaction fees, staking, and governance.

In June 2022, an attacker took approximately $100 million in assets from the Harmony-operated Horizon bridge. The project offered a bounty and paused the bridge following the incident and later proposed minting billions of new ONE tokens to reimburse affected users, a proposal that drew opposition on the project’s governance forum.
