Key Highlights
- Coinbase has introduced a new Launches tab for its DEX platform.
- Users can discover and trade newly launched Base and Solana tokens immediately after they go live on-chain.
- Trading requires a Coinbase self-custody wallet and is currently unavailable in some jurisdictions.
Crypto exchange Coinbase has rolled out a new feature designed to give users faster access to newly launched crypto tokens, allowing them to discover and trade eligible Base and Solana assets as soon as they become available on-chain.
In an X post on Monday, Coinbase said, “We’re taking the Coinbase DEX experience to the next level. Find and trade Base or Solana tokens as soon as they’re live onchain. Now available on our new Launches tab.”
The feature is integrated into Coinbase’s decentralized exchange (DEX) experience and is intended to shorten the time between a token’s on-chain launch and when users can begin trading it.
Unlike traditional exchange listings, which often involve a delay before trading begins, the Launches tab focuses on assets that are already live on public blockchains.
How the new Launches tab works
Coinbase said access to the new feature requires users to create a self-custody wallet before trading. In its accompanying legal notice, the company clarified that DEX trading is powered by Coinbase Bermuda Technologies Ltd., remains subject to applicable terms of service, and is not available in every jurisdiction.
The company also said fees may apply and emphasized that the feature should not be interpreted as investment advice or a recommendation to purchase any digital asset.
By requiring self-custody, Coinbase continues to distinguish its decentralized trading products from its centralized exchange, where users trade assets held by the platform.
Part of Coinbase’s broader onchain strategy
The Launches tab is the latest addition to Coinbase’s broader effort to expand beyond traditional exchange services and strengthen its on-chain ecosystem.
Last month, Coinbase expanded its offerings in India by introducing ETH-INR and SOL-INR trading pairs after enabling INR payment support, giving local users more direct access to major cryptocurrencies.
More recently, CEO Brian Armstrong unveiled the company’s broader “AiFi” strategy, arguing that artificial intelligence and crypto should evolve together rather than compete. Instead of pivoting away from crypto toward AI, Armstrong said Coinbase intends to build financial infrastructure where AI agents can transact using blockchain-based payment rails.
The Launches tab aligns with that strategy by making on-chain markets more accessible while reinforcing Base’s role within Coinbase’s ecosystem.
Competition for early token trading intensifies
The race to offer faster access to newly issued tokens has become increasingly competitive among crypto trading platforms. Decentralized exchanges have traditionally been the first venues where new assets become available, while centralized exchanges often list tokens only after completing internal reviews.
With the new Launches tab, Coinbase is seeking to narrow that gap by giving users earlier access to newly deployed assets while retaining the familiarity of its trading interface. The feature also supports Coinbase’s broader investment in Base, as the company continues building infrastructure aimed at attracting developers, liquidity, and on-chain applications.
As more trading activity shifts toward decentralized markets, features that reduce the friction between token creation and market access are becoming increasingly important across the crypto industry.
