Chainlink Exec Urges Democrats Booker and Kim to Back CLARITY Act

Key Highlights

  • Chainlink executive Andrew McCormick publicly urged Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim to support the CLARITY Act.
  • The appeal comes as Senate Republicans continue searching for additional Democratic votes to advance the legislation.
  • McCormick argued the current U.S. crypto regulatory framework is fragmented and pushing innovation overseas.

A senior Chainlink executive has publicly called on New Jersey Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim to support the CLARITY Act, highlighting growing industry efforts to secure bipartisan backing for the Senate’s crypto market structure legislation.

Andrew McCormick, Chainlink’s Head of Institutional and Market Development, addressed both senators directly in a post on X, arguing that clearer digital asset regulations would benefit investors while helping the United States remain competitive in blockchain innovation.

Hi, @CoryBooker and @AndyKimNJ. Please support the Clarity Act.

An affirmative vote will help better protect American investors, support innovation and job growth in New Jersey, and help ensure the U.S. remains the world's financial leader.

McCormick described himself as one of the senators’ constituents and argued that the current regulatory framework creates unnecessary uncertainty for companies operating in the digital asset industry.

He ended the post by saying that his wife, four children, and even their goldfish would appreciate voters’ support.

Democratic votes remain critical

McCormick’s appeal comes as Senate Republicans continue working to assemble enough bipartisan support for the CLARITY Act.

Recent reports indicate Republicans still need an additional nine votes to move the legislation through the Senate, making support from Democrats such as Booker and Kim increasingly important.

At the same time, negotiations remain ongoing over ethics provisions that have become one of the bill’s biggest political obstacles.

According to recent reporting, Republican lawmakers are expected to hold additional discussions with the White House in an effort to address Democratic concerns before the legislation reaches the Senate floor.

Neither Booker nor Kim has publicly responded to McCormick’s appeal.

Crypto industry steps up pressure on lawmakers

McCormick’s appeal is the latest in a series of public lobbying efforts by crypto industry leaders as the Senate works toward a possible floor vote.

Earlier this week, Coinbase Vice Chair Ryan VanGrack argued that even critics of the digital asset industry should support the CLARITY Act, saying the legislation is fundamentally about creating clear rules for financial markets rather than promoting cryptocurrencies.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Digital Head of Research Alex Thorn recently lowered his estimate of the bill’s chances of becoming law in 2026 from 50% to 30%, warning that the Senate is running short on both time and votes.

Together, the statements illustrate how crypto companies, financial firms, and policy advocates have increasingly shifted from debating the bill’s contents to publicly urging lawmakers to support it before Congress begins its August recess.

Crypto community echoes the call

McCormick’s post quickly drew support from members of the crypto community, many of whom encouraged the senators to back the legislation.

One New Jersey resident wrote:

Another commenter added:

“This is more important than any R vs D debate. Get over yourselves and do what’s right for the people.”

Some users also warned that lawmakers could face political consequences if the legislation fails to advance.

Pressure builds ahead of senate recess

The public appeal reflects a broader push by crypto companies and industry executives to encourage lawmakers to act before Congress adjourns for its August recess.

The CLARITY Act seeks to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital asset markets, including clearer oversight of crypto exchanges, brokers, issuers and custodians by defining the responsibilities of the SEC and CFTC.

While negotiations continue, the legislation’s path through the Senate remains uncertain. With the vote count still in flux and time running short, industry participants are increasingly directing their attention toward lawmakers whose support could determine whether the bill advances this year.
