Pi Network has announced a mandatory upgrade to Protocol 25, requiring all Mainnet node operators to update their software before June 18 or risk being disconnected from the network.
In an official notice published on June 9, the Pi Core Team stated that the upgrade process may take longer than previous migrations and urged node operators to plan accordingly. “All Mainnet nodes are required to complete this step before the deadline to remain connected to the network. This upgrade takes longer to complete,” the team said.
While Pi Network did not provide extensive technical details about the upgrade, the Core Team emphasized that the update represents another step in strengthening the network’s infrastructure as Mainnet development continues.
Building on Protocol 23 migration
The Protocol 25 rollout follows the successful completion of the Protocol 23 migration, which Pi Network previously described as one of the most complex infrastructure upgrades in the project’s history.
In May, the Pi Core Team confirmed that the majority of Mainnet nodes had successfully upgraded to Protocol 23, marking a major milestone in the network’s ongoing development.
The latest upgrade suggests Pi is continuing its phased approach toward improving scalability, stability, and decentralization across its blockchain ecosystem.
Part of Pi’s decentralization strategy
Pi Network has repeatedly described its development model as one of “progressive decentralization,” gradually expanding community participation in network operations while maintaining stability during its growth phase.
According to the project’s node documentation, participants interested in operating nodes are evaluated based on several factors, including uptime, internet reliability, hardware performance, security circles, and overall trust metrics within the Pi ecosystem.
The Protocol 25 migration is another step toward strengthening that infrastructure as Pi continues preparing for broader network participation.
The latest upgrade arrives as Pi Network continues expanding its Mainnet ecosystem and node infrastructure. With the June 18 deadline approaching, node operators are expected to complete the migration in the coming days, ensuring continued participation in Pi Network’s growing decentralized infrastructure.
