Key Highlights
- Pi Network says the second mainnet migration has now started with a gradual rollout.
- The phase allows eligible users to move additional Pi balances to mainnet.
- Referral mining bonuses tied to KYC-cleared team members are also included in this migration wave.
- Wallet two-factor authentication is now required before first or second migrations are processed.
Pi Network has announced the start of its second mainnet migration phase, a move that allows users who have already completed their first migration to transfer additional eligible Pi balances onto the blockchain. The rollout is being introduced gradually, according to the project’s latest Pi Day 2026 update.
The update marks one of the more closely watched milestones for Pi’s community, as second migrations had been anticipated for months. In its official announcement, Pi said the new phase opens the door for Pioneers to bring more Pi to mainnet and deepen participation across the ecosystem. The network also said first migrations for users who are still eligible will continue alongside the second-wave rollout.
A major condition attached to the migration process is wallet security. Pi said users must complete Pi Wallet two-factor authentication through the Mainnet Checklist before becoming fully eligible for migration. The project framed the requirement as a safeguard because blockchain transfers are irreversible once completed on-chain.
Pi referral bonus
The second migration phase also includes referral mining bonuses, but only for referral team members who have fully passed KYC. That means users waiting for those balances to move may still depend on whether members of their referral network finish verification. Pi explicitly urged users to remind their referral teams to complete KYC so those bonuses can be migrated as well.
Beyond second migrations, Pi’s Pi Day 2026 update bundled the announcement with several broader ecosystem releases, including protocol upgrades, validator rewards, and new product features. The company said that after the first and second migrations are cleared for the current queue, it plans to move toward ongoing periodic migrations, though the exact frequency has not yet been specified.
The start of second migrations is significant for Pi because it addresses a practical issue for users whose additional balances, including referral-linked rewards, had remained outside mainnet after their first transfer. Whether the rollout materially improves confidence in the ecosystem may now depend on how quickly migrations are processed and how smoothly users complete the new 2FA requirement.
