Coinbase Halts cbETH on Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon After Aug 17

Key Highlights

  • Coinbase will stop supporting cbETH deposits and withdrawals on Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon from August 17, 2026.
  • cbETH support remains available on Ethereum and Base.
  • After the deadline, users will no longer be able to send or receive cbETH through the three affected networks.

Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange, will end support for cbETH (Coinbase Wrapped Staked ETH) deposits and withdrawals on the Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon networks on August 17, 2026. However, cbETH remains fully available on the Ethereum and Base networks.

In an X post on Friday, Coinbase Markets mentioned that after August 17, 2026, users will no longer be able to send or receive cbETH on the Arbitrum, Optimism, or Polygon networks.

Reminder: Coinbase will end support for cbETH deposits and withdrawals on the Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon networks on August 17, 2026. cbETH remains fully available to you on the Ethereum and Base networks.

Users were directed to review the details through Coinbase support channels for any related questions. The notice includes a specific caution against sending cbETH to Coinbase addresses associated with Arbitrum, Optimism, or Polygon once the support period ends, citing the potential that such funds may not be recoverable.

Earlier trading pair suspensions

On August 5, Coinbase announced that it would suspend six non-USD trading pairs following a routine review of trading activity and market liquidity. The pairs scheduled for suspension were LSETH-ETH, MINA-EUR, GRT-GBP, MASK-GBP, CHZ-USDT, and CRO-USDT.

Trading in those pairs was set to end on August 6, 2026. The action formed part of Coinbase’s ongoing process of consolidating liquidity across its exchange.

In another suspension move, Coinbase suspended 25 perpetual futures contracts on its Advanced and International Exchange platforms to streamline its derivatives offerings and focus on liquidity and market quality.

In an X announcement on April 21, Coinbase Markets said all remaining open positions in the affected contracts were automatically settled using the average index price from the final 60 minutes before the suspension took effect.

The contracts removed include TRB-PERP, RARE-PERP, NEIRO-PERP, A-PERP, ME-PERP, XTZ-PERP, KMNO-PERP, RAY-PERP, STX-PERP, ENS-PERP, GMT-PERP, SNX-PERP, 1000FLOKI-PERP, 0G-PERP, ORDI-PERP, NIL-PERP, BIO-PERP, UMA-PERP, BEAM-PERP, INIT-PERP, SOMI-PERP, EGLD-PERP, CLANKER-PERP, SOPH-PERP, and BIGTIME-PERP.

Deribit license and spot trading arrangement

Deribit, the crypto options exchange owned by Coinbase, received a broker-dealer license from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). Coinbase announced the license on August 13. Under the arrangement, spot buy, sell, and trade orders placed on Deribit will be routed to Coinbase Exchange for execution.

The change links Deribit’s existing trading interface and derivatives ecosystem with Coinbase Exchange’s centralized order book. The setup provides Deribit clients with access to the liquidity and asset range available on Coinbase Exchange.

The sequence of announcements covers network support adjustments for cbETH, the suspension of selected trading pairs, and the regulatory approval for Deribit’s expanded spot trading capabilities. Each update was communicated through Coinbase channels and specified effective dates or implementation details tied to the respective changes.

Coinbase launches US Stock trading for UK users

Coinbase has begun offering US stock trading to its UK customers, allowing them to buy and sell nearly 4,000 American equities within the same app used for cryptocurrency. The rollout starts progressively from August 6 and provides commission-free trading 24 hours a day, five days a week. Fractional shares are available from £1, and trades can be funded in pounds or USDC.

Coinbase stated it is the first crypto-native trading app to introduce US equities in the UK. The features match those previously made available to US customers earlier this year, including zero-commission trades, fractional shares, and extended hours beyond standard exchange sessions.

Eligible UK users will gain access to a selection of US equities over time. Instant funding is supported via GBP or existing USDC balances. Coinbase One subscribers receive uncapped rewards on USDC used for these trades.
