Key Highlights
- The Pi Network finished the v19.9 node upgrade, confirming that the computers running the network are now fully operating on the updated protocol.
- More than 421,000 active nodes are securing the blockchain, supporting over 17.7 million KYC-verified users, known as Pioneers.
- The node upgrade comes two days after the protocol migration on March 4 and just ahead of Pi Day on March 14.
The Pi Network has completed its v19.9 node upgrade, a technical step that strengthens the system that runs the blockchain.
According to the announcement, more than 421,000 active nodes are now helping secure the Pi blockchain. These nodes support over 17.7 million users who have completed Know Your Customer (KYC) verification.
Over 421,000 nodes now supporting the network
Nodes are computers run by users that help keep the blockchain working. They verify transactions, store data, and keep the network connected. With this new update, the network now runs fully on the same protocol version across its infrastructure.
“The v19.9 node upgrade is complete! With over 421k active nodes securing the blockchain for 17.7M+ KYC’d Pioneers, the network’s foundation is stronger than ever. All systems are go as we build toward major announcements on Pi Day, March 14th.” the team said on X
Following recent protocol migration
The upgrade follows the earlier migration to Protocol v19.9, which was confirmed on March 4. Migration means the main network moved to a new version of the protocol, which is the set of rules that guide how the blockchain operates.
After a migration happens, node operators usually need to update their software so their computers can run the new version correctly. The completion of the node upgrade shows that the computers supporting the network have now moved to the updated system.
How Pi Nodes help run the blockchain
The Pi Network is known for allowing users to run nodes on personal computers rather than large server farms. This design makes it possible for everyday users to take part in the network’s operation. The system uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol, a method where groups of nodes work together to agree on which transactions are valid. Some nodes also run as SuperNodes, which stay connected all the time and help keep the network synchronized.
The v19.9 upgrade is part of a longer upgrade path planned by the Pi Core Team. The network has been moving through several protocol versions in stages. Earlier steps included versions 19.1 and 19.6, before reaching version 19.9. Future updates are expected as the system continues evolving toward later versions.
The latest update arrives only days before Pi Day on March 14, a date that is widely recognized in the Pi community.
Pi token surge 17% in a week
Meanwhile, Pi, the native token of the network, is up by a modest 2.39% today, from an intraday low of $1.879 to near $2. This surge adds up to over 17% surge in the last 7 days, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
However, trading activity is down by 1.25% to about $38.7 million in trading volume while its market valuation sits at $1.9 billion.
