The Litecoin Summit 2025 kicked off today in Las Vegas, with founder Charlie Lee opening the event with his session, ‘State of the Coin.’
Speaking to the crowd, Lee doubled down on what Litecoin has always stood for. “Litecoin is a people’s currency,” he said — and the room erupted in applause.
He praised the Litecoin community, calling it “the most non-toxic community in the space.” The remark was met with cheers and hoots from attendees, many of whom have been part of the project since its early years.
He gave out codes so people could just copy that and start mining from day zero, just after the launch, highlighting how accessible the system was in its early days. According to him, a simple CPU was all that was needed.
Throughout the session, Lee kept the focus on inclusivity. “Everyone can attend a summit,” he said, underscoring the open nature of both the event and the Litecoin community.
He added, “We’re not maximalist. We’re not Litecoin maximalists. We don’t hate on other coins.”
Lee also took a step back from charts and slides this time, opting instead for a direct, unscripted keynote, his first speech-style session in years. “Writing a speech is really that hard,” he admitted, drawing laughs.
He revisited Litecoin’s roots and its core philosophy. Litecoin was built on fairness and decentralization, he added, recalling how there was no premine and no insider advantage. “I mine just like anyone else, and I bought coins from the exchange just like anyone else.”
The Litecoin Foundation, he pointed out, even loses money on the Summit every year just to keep ticket prices affordable. At $84, the ticket cost reflects Litecoin’s maximum supply of 84 million coins—just one example of how the ecosystem stays grounded in its values.
In his most emphatic moment, Lee said, “If I decided to print an extra one million Litecoin tomorrow, I expect each and every one of you to say, ‘F* off, Charlie.’” The crowd laughed, but his point was serious: decentralization means no single person-founder, including, should have ultimate control.
He went on to contrast Litecoin’s track record with other projects that have made controversial changes. Without naming Ethereum directly, Lee referenced those who rolled back the chain, saying Litecoin had never reversed a transaction, even in crisis.
As the Summit continues through May 30, sessions will feature updates on Litecoin development, merchant adoption, fungibility, privacy, and the growing presence of Litecoin in mainstream payments, including its continued dominance on BitPay for over 16 consecutive months.
After 14 years in existence, Lee’s message remained clear: Litecoin isn’t chasing hype. He added that they are building real money for real people. And in a room full of builders, miners, and believers, that sentiment still landed just as strongly as it did in 2011.
