Notably, Remus and Romulus are the first Dire Wolves resurrected from extinction. Reportedly, this species was wiped out from the face of the earth about 12,500 years ago. With this, this animal is the “world’s first successfully de-extinct animal,” as per the claims of “Colossal Biosciences” a Dallas-based biotech company.
The Dire Wolf pups were regenerated by using ancient DNA, cloning, and gene-editing technology to alter the genes of a gray wolf, which is the closest relative of the then-extinct species.
