Memecoin $SUCHIR created in the memory of OpenAI former researcher Suchir Balaji

More than two months after the body of 26-year-old former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji was found from his San Francisco apartment, his supporters are now promoting a Solana based memecoin under his name, to seek welfare donations for his family. The creators of $SUCHIR memecoin have also donated around 4.12 million tokens to the Solana wallet address belonging to Balaji’s family that has been seeking justice for his death.

The creators of $SUCHIR memecoin have claimed to have done it in the honor of his legacy and to support his parents who are demanding an impartial investigation into his death. Fans have also shared the Solana wallet address of Suchir’s parents for citizens to donate $SUCHIR or any other cryptocurrency. Even earlier, supporters of Suchir had donated 586 $SOL worth approximately $126,000 to his parent’s Solana wallet address.

Funding the Fight: $SUCHIR is a cryptocurrency created in honor of Suchir Balaji to support his family and the collective fight for truth and ethical accountability. This is the only crypto project endorsed by Suchir’s family.

Balaji was found dead in his apartment in San Francisco on November 26 under mysterious circumstances, months after he had quit OpenAI over ethical concerns and turned into a whistleblower against their artificial intelligence (AI) models lifting copyrighted content of people. Initially, Suchir’s death was declared as a suicide but his family has alleged wrongdoings in his death, pointing fingers at his whistleblowing activities against OpenAI.

Suchir worked with OpenAI as a researcher from 2019 and he served in the ChatGPT flagship project of the organization. Somewhere in 2024, Suchir quit OpenAI and claimed that the organization was infringing upon copyright laws by letting their AI models train on original content created by artists, journalists, writers and scientists. Later, Suchir was named by New York Times in their litigation against OpenAI as someone privy to internal documents of the organization.

Tokenomics of $SUCHIR

The memecoin $SUCHIR was created in December last year on Solana blockchain with a total cap of 1 billion tokens. The project creators have transferred 4.12 million $SUCHIR tokens to the wallet address of Suchir’s parents, accounting for 0.4% of total coins. Till now, there has been a total of 2000 transactions on this cryptocurrency and the total liquidity is around $300,000 with market cap at $1 Million.

Suchir’s parents have not officially endorsed $SUCHIR memecoin however they have announced a public SOL wallet address mentioned as : Q4eXHNPsnQoPvsRAdgH6TjT66eWEk7y6JniTd9ru4N3. Currently, $SUCHIR is priced at $0.001425.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has acknowledged Suchir as part of their research team, however, they have refused to comment on the nature of his demise, calling it an ongoing police investigation. Balaji’s parents have been demanding an FBI investigation into Balaji’s death and had recently met Congressman Ro Khanna seeking his support.
