Web3 Firm CEO Visits Bangkok for Devcon; Gets Robbed at knifepoint

Rooch Network CEO Haichao Zhu visited Bangkok for the upcoming Devcon event, Ethereum’s largest annual summit, and was robbed at knifepoint by two men. Following the incident, he has advised tourists to avoid walking alone at night in Bangkok. The Devcon event is supposed to begin on November 12.

Haichao shared this incident in X post and warned others by saying to be careful while walking on the streets at midnight. He also highlights that Bangkok is still a safe and fun place but just like all other places, it’s essential to be aware of potential dangers that may be hidden in the shadows.

Jolestar founder of Rooch Network who was there with Zhu during this incident thanked police officials for helping them. He said that the police were very nice to them and had no problem communicating in English.

Jole also advised others to be cautious, stating, “It is best to go out with friends at night and try not to talk on the phone while walking.”

As Haichao posted about this incident, he got a tremendous response and support from the community who is concerned about their safety. Zhu thanked everyone who cared about what happened to them and shared full details about the robbery in another X post.

Haichao shared that, he was walking to his Airbnb after being dropped off at the wrong location by a taxi. While navigating with his phone, two men on a motorcycle approached him. One of them, armed with a knife, stole his phone and attempted to take his luggage but failed. Haichao sustained a minor cut on his hand.

A bystander helped him contact the police, who then escorted him to his Airbnb and later to the police station to file a report. Later on, police officials invested the crime and revisited the scene with him to document everything.

At last, Zhu suggested everyone stay safe while attending the event and don’t display valuables, and always have a backup plan in case of emergencies.
