MakerDAO governance delegate reportedly fell victim to a phishing scam resulting in the loss of a staggering $11 million worth of cryptocurrency.
The unfortunate delegate, whose identity remains undisclosed, was tricked into signing multiple phishing signatures, unwittingly granting access to their digital wallet. In a matter of seconds, the scammer made off with 3,657 Aave Ethereum (aEthMK) tokens and a substantial amount of Pendle USDe tokens.
Scam Sniffer, a crypto-security firm, first detected the theft. The stolen funds were swiftly transferred to another address, leaving investigators scrambling to trace the illicit transaction.
The attack comes amid growing concerns over the rise of “approval phishing” in the crypto space. On Saturday, famous billionaire Mark Cuban also fell victim to a similar trick, losing control of his main Gmail account after a hacker pretending to be from Google tricked him into giving access. He quickly took to X and warned his millions of followers on social media not to trust any emails from his address.
