Opera Crypto Browser to Support Metamask & Other Third-party Wallets

The Web3-focused Opera Crypto Browser now supports third-party wallets such as MetaMask, TrustWallet and many more.

Users will be able to toggle between various wallet extensions available in the Google Chrome or Opera store to interact with a particular dApp or website using an “industry-first upgrade: a Wallet Selector.”

Don’t be stuck with a Web2 browser, Opera Crypto Browser unveils the industry’s first Wallet Selector! 😉 Pick which wallet extension you want to interact with a given Dapp. @Metamask @TrustWallet & more wallets available for next level Web3 browsing. https://t.co/Zppgi3p7TS pic.twitter.com/J9phEQdeDa

The Wallet Selector will also remember user preferences for different websites.

Danny Yao, Senior Product Manager at Opera said, “The browser’s built-in selector allows users to easily switch between different wallets via a simple UI—but it doesn’t have access to private keys or passwords used in third-party extensions.”

“This means that Opera’s Crypto Browser doesn’t introduce any additional security risks by itself.”

The upgrade also introduces support for human-readable wallet and domain handles as well as Ethereum Name Service (ENS).

Susie Batt, the Crypto Ecosystem Lead at Opera said, “Not only have we provided a gateway into Web3, but we’ve also simplified many everyday processes native to the crypto space that may previously have confused the average web user.”

The Opera Crypto Browser partnered up with DappRadar, which will give the browser access to all important metrics for more than 11,000 dApps over 48 protocols and in different categories, including NFTs and DeFi.

Moreover, PancakeSwap, the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) yield-farming app has been integrated in the browser and its native crypto wallet when Opera announced support for the BNB chain. This will allow users to trade tokens directly from within the wallet without the need to connect to an external dApp first.

Additionally, the upgrade improves several security aspects. A phishing detection feature has been added that blocks phishing websites on the blacklist along with a clipboard protection feature.

The Browser will introduce a malicious address checker in the coming weeks to ensure that users are not being scammed.

Yao said, “This additional security feature helps the Crypto Browser users to check, for example, whether a smart contract is present on a special blacklist or has any malicious functions coded, i.e. has already been reported as scam, rug pull, fake or malicious smart contract, and so on in the past.”
